Lash tip Tuesday- Girls, let’s talk about the dreaded Fall Shed. Here’s what it means: You’re barely making it to your 2 week fills! You’re freaking out because your lashes are all over your pillowcase, your cheeks, your sweaters!... Does this sound familiar? If so, you’re totally normal! To understand fall shed, you have to understand the hair growth cycle. Your hair grows in three phases: 1. Anagen- the hair is rooted to the follicle and receiving nutrients from your blood flow. 2. Catagen- the hair is no longer growing or receiving nutrients and the follicle begins to collapse. 3. Telogen- the hair is detached and ready to shed. Roughly 10% of all the hairs on your body are in the telogen phase, and on average you should lose 3-5 hairs per day. Are you with me? So the above is a normal growth phase. Your little lashes go through all the steps and then it starts all over again! In the summertime, though, we grow more hair to protect us from the hot sun and ultraviolet rays. In the autumn, the additional hair growth is no longer needed and is shed. That means, you lose more than 3-5 lashes per day, you have lots of new baby anagen lashes growing, and you’re dying to get in for a fill. It’s a long explanation, I know. I just want you all to know that it’s totally par for the course. So for now, love yourself and love those lashes.

Lash tip Tuesday: Lash extensions should NEVER hurt. This includes the following: Pinching Burning Heaviness ... Poking My painful extensions actually pushed me to be educated by my extremely knowledgeable instructor and owner of @hart.beauty.academy. I, too, thought extensions were meant to pinch, and that blinking was supposed to be painful! I am so glad she noticed how painful they looked, and fixed them. I’m even happier that I took the step forward and learned to do them PROPERLY. I have had so so so many clients come and tell me they’re finally brave enough to get extensions again, because they’re ready to handle the pain again. Say what??? Beauty is not pain. Not in this circumstance, anyway. Waxing, maybe.... So my tip is- if you’re reading this and your lashes hurt, there is likely an isolation issue (you have more than one natural lash adhered to an extension). Call your tech and ask them to fix it. Pictured is NOT my work!!!*** To my sweet clients: I’m sharing this picture with permission, as a public service announcement: Please tell your friends/sisters/aunts/nieces/worst enemies to do their research on their potential lash tech!... This wonderful lady had the world’s worst lash application. Ever. For 2 years. She didn’t even know what was happening to her natural lashes! We are talking 8-15 lashes stuck to one extension Please share this so everyone can know what to check for: 1. Ask what products they use. Nail glue is NOT meant for the eyes. It doesn’t come off. 2. Ask how long it should take. 45 minutes is NOT an acceptable amount of time. Unless she’s the flash. And even then- sketch! 3. Ask how they are cleaning their equipment. Think about a fork falling on the ground at a restaurant, would you still eat with it? 4. Ask for client testimonies. If the client has ANY discomfort at all, keep looking. Just because the tech might be inexpensive, does not mean quality application. 5. Save yourself some time and come see me- I explain all of the above at the beginning of the appointment anyway. PLUS- I don’t send you away with clumped up lashes. Take care of yourself! Don’t accept eyes that hurt with extensions, you deserve better.
