Some days you come in and find literal broken glass in your office. My U of C undergrad degree fell off the wall. I think I didn't hang it well. Silver lining is that the UVic Law Degree did not fall! Social media often ends up always being the good posts, but reality is some days you just want to cry. Instead, you pull yourself together, make a joke, get some help (extra thanks for @smartexecutive team who are always the best folks), clean up, and carry on. Somewha...t of a metaphor for my practice style. Also is anyone good at hanging stuff or know someone who is? I should pay a professional because clearly this is not my forte (excellent lawyer, terrible at hands on stuff).

I'm seeing and hearing this in my own practice. It's an interesting real estate market. If you are buying or selling a home, get in touch! I charge $800 for a sale and $1000 for a purchase, discounts if no mortgage (cash deal). No admin, photocopying, file opening, or credit card fees. You pay for Land Title fees, City of Calgary property tax certificate, courier, of course. ... Whether it's your first home or your fifteen, I'll make sure you understand the process. You deal directly with me, not with my assistant.

Hey folks! I'm happy to share that I am officially a board member of Two Wheel View! They are a local non-profit that supports marginalized youth through the bicycle. It's an amazing organization that does good in such a positive way. I have decided this year to skip the Christmas gifts and cards, and instead donate to TWV! If you're looking for an organization to support, I highly recommend them and if you want to know more, just get in touch! @twowheelviewyyc

"In a landmark decision, Justice Gregory Moore invalidated several articles of the Civil Code, including the one that prevents a person from changing the sex listed on their act of birth to reflect their gender identity. Moore also struck down the provision that requires someone to be identified as a mother or a father on a declaration of birth, rather than being referred to as a parent."

Financial disclosure is a fundamental issue in family law. If you choose to marry or live with someone, then you will face legal consequences. The best way to understand this is that when you choose to marry or romantically live with someone: you are signing an invisible contract, a contract to be bound by family law. This is a relationship that leads to legal consequences. It often feels unfair or surprising but that is the law. There are good reasons for it too.... There are only two ways to avoid that: 1) don't marry or live with someone, or 2) have a legally binding cohabitation/marriage agreement (often known as a prenup, but it can be made any time in the relationship). Get in touch for a free consultation. Before you take the step of signing this invisible contract, it's best to get some legal advice to make an informed decision and to protect yourself.

I received the most amazing gift basket of homemade goodies from one of my favourite people. Time for a plug. If you and your ex want mediation, get in touch with Caroline Cranston of Fairway: [email protected] or 587-969-4519. She is professional, knowledgeable, and fair. I have provided independent legal advice (ILA) on several agreements where folks have gone to her. ... #yycseparation #yycfairway #yycdivorce #yycaffordabledivorce #loveyourlawyer

This story is too good not to keep as a post. Call me to find out when you can DIY or when it's worth paying me! Truly, I love being cost-effective for my clients. I offer a free hour consultation to ask you questions about your situation, give you advice, provide you your options and estimate costs (or tell you where costs are hard to predict and any). The goal is you make an informed decision on what to do next. This includes telling you how to do it yourself and free/low income/or low cost options. I see my job as prioritizing your interest. #sensible #yyclawyer #yycseparation #yycdivorce #affordablelawyeryyc #yycsmallbusiness

From @queersoncampus #TDOR Trans* and gender non-conforming people continue to be subjected to a significantly high level of violence, which sadly often ends in murder with often very little justice. We have a long way to go before this world is safe for marginalized folx. Take a moment to learn, reflect, remember, and mourn today.

A great opportunity to learn about medical planning. I use the Plan Well Guide as a tool in conjunction with my Personal Directive for clients. It gives me a sense of thoroughness so my clients are prepared for situations where their family has to make medical decisions for them! Get in touch if you do not have a will, power of attorney, or personal directive. These are important documents for you and your loved ones to navigate difficult situations.
