Lawrence Mark's Cultural Camp 01.04.2021

Story to this photo. After the forest fire 2001, late Lawrence Mark and family build three tent frames. At the time, it was just mud grounds, devastation site. Everything was lost, even beautiful big trees. It was bare and full of root holes. At times they would camp in muskeg to give the grounds a chance to grow. This is the second tent frame he had build which we all dismantle in honour as it was falling apart. To remember and show respect, we took a group photo before dismantling. Behind that tent frame is another one thats covered with green tarp thats still stands which the family is trying to preserve and keep for a bit longer. memories live on through all of us. Be kind!

A little history of stooping river Kayteapohgun, now LMCC. The awareness and respect is there for all those who hunted there many many years ago. Every year, we host a sacred fire to honour and remember our ancestors who walked the grounds before us and before them. Life is a cycle. In 2001, there was a forest fire at this camp site. There was nothing left other than the debris, ashes of lost camps and trees. Late Gabriel and Alice Loone took the initiative to help rebuild as ...the elders were at a point of not being able to do so due to advanced age and lack of resources. Lawrence build 3 tempoary tent frames. In 2001, late in the fall Late Gabriel loone requested for a tractor to the site. Joe Nakogee drove the tractor to the area and clean the site. Late Gabriel along with his children and Alice worked daily to clean the mess the fire left behind. The beautiful grounds you see today is the result of their determination and hard work. Later on the years, Alice reached out to family such as myself to return and be part of rebuild. Today we are more determine to continue to grow, share and show kindness to all as our ancestors taught us. God Bless! Home is where one spends the majority time. Respect to late Mr. Lawrence Mark and other late elders before him. Thank you. See more

LMCC Team were out for the weekend picking Cedar & Labrador tea leaves. Anyone that wants some cedar and Labrador tea can inbox. Cedar is a sacred tree, it’s use to purify home and can be used as medicine. The tea of simmered branches is used to treat fevers, chest colds and flu. This brew is simple to make. Just simmer 2 cups of fresh cedar in 4 cups of boiling water for about 10 minutes until the water becomes a golden colour. Once done, strain off the cedar tea. Cedar is a safe and effective medicine when needed. Cedar and Labrador leafs can be used at same time. Drink 1 cup a day when needed.
