Copy-of-ScamSmiths Falls Police say they are still getting a number of complaints about the Canada Revenue Agency phone Scam, and people are still providing personal information to these Thieves. Police warn, do NOT become a victim. Just a couple days ago we told you that it had been reported in Perth too. The force says that fraudsters are using tax season as an opportunity to attempt to scam consumers and businesses out of their hard earned money. Fraudsters impersonate the real Canada Revenue Agency by telephone or by email. They are either phishing for your personal information or asking that outstanding taxes be paid by a money service business or by pre-paid debit/credit cards right away to avoid jail time. The CRA doesn’t go after people like this at all. If someone tries to suck you into the scam, hang up and call the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501.
