Layinnah Birth 04.05.2021

Regarding my last post, I talked about how I was mislead and misinformed. Let’s take a step back into 2018, after my 2nd child was born. I was deep in thought about the things that were done without my consent. How procedures were sort of forced on me because I didn’t have any knowledge on how to use alternative methods. But most importantly, I didn’t do anything to inform or educate myself. After all, I was my own biggest advocate, but did nothing to help myself. I remember ...talking to my husband about it and discussing doulas, childbirth education, midwifery, birthing options, advocacy, etc. I wondered how I could help prevent things like this from happening to other moms, especially our Muslim sisters. If you think about it, majority of us didn’t have our moms, sisters, aunties, or grandmothers talking to us about the importance and physiology of pregnancy and childbirth. It’s such a hush-hush topic. But it’s one of the most important things to discuss as childbearing women. I knew it needed to end and this wasn’t the right way to go about things. But how? I came across an organization that offered certification courses to become a labour and birth doula. But it had no Islamic basis. I’m not a scholar, so I would need to do major fact checking if i wanted to incorporate Islamic teachings into what i did. My husband told me Pray istikhaara and wait until after Ramadan for this organization. And so I did. Every time I came across their page, it was always what they advocated, preached, and taught their students that really went against the basic teachings of Islam. I told myself would i want to be part of an organization that made me a hypocrite? Of course not, and what would my kids think about that as they grew up. It was a major NO for me. After Ramadan, I came across another organization that ticked every box, even having the Islamic perspective I was after! And that amazing, eye opening, life changing organization was @amani_birth Read the AMANI Birth book to find out more about CHILDBIRTH and so much more. Pregnancy and birth of my 2 kids (Part 1) By the time my daughter was 10 months old, I found out I was 5 weeks pregnant with my 2nd child. I thought to myself Okay, the first time around was a traumatizing and rough labour and it was NOTHING how I expected it to be, but it’ll be different this time around. But I did nothing to prepare. I ate worse. I was not informed or exposed to all the things that can harm myself and potentially harm my baby by not getting the proper kno...wledge behind pregnancy and childbirth. I had no clue about Obstretic violence. I wasn’t around anyone who could give me proper guidance or advice. I heard many different things from people, all which included taking drugs for pain relief And I thought to myself Giving birth must be so hard and unbearable that I have to take drugs just to do it! I wasn’t told about the options of comprehensive and Islamic childbirth classes or having a doula...because there wasn’t ANY in my community, so it wasn’t talked about at all as an option I had. I wasn’t informed about bearing with labour naturally and I was mislead. I was intimidated by the doctors and their strong opinions, which made me feel small and like I didn’t have the ability to trust my instincts. Again, the 2nd time around, I was deeply traumatized and couldn’t bear the thought of ever getting pregnant again. The doctors and nurses failed me. I was robbed of the joys and beauty of childbirth. I failed myself, by putting all my trust in the medical teams, before trusting Allah and myself. But for this 3rd time, I am making sure to withhold my promise to myself and my unborn child, that I will take control over what Allah will allow me to inshaAllah. With the help and guidance of Allah that lead me to AMANI Birth and sister Aisha Al Hajjar, I feel confident, informed, and a drive to help myself and others. Moms and moms to be, there’s always an option. How you handle the information thrown your way, is totally up to how you choose to go about it. #worlddoulaweek #birthstory #islamicreminders #childbirth #muslimwomen #laborsupport #midwife #doulasupport #childbirtheducation #pregnancyeducation #informedbirth #doulalife #momlife

During pregnancy, more iron than usual is needed to support placenta development and the added blood volume, and promote iron storage. Aside from the supplement, here are other sources. Please discuss these sources with your midwife. #pregnancy #nutrition #nutritionmonth #iron

A little visual I like to give my students during our weekly live sessions! I love making these boards and going through them with the mom and dad. It makes our classes so much more interactive
