Join us today at 2pm! Eating disorders are not about food. They most often evolve as a coping strategy for soothing difficult emotions related to the impact of abuse, neglect and trauma. We recover by healing our sense of connection, attachment and community. In this workshop we will explore the connections between disordered eating and interpersonal trauma, discuss strategies for rejecting diet culture, learn how to approach our emotions with self compassion, and practice creating feelings of safety in our bodies.

Today is Transgender Day of Remembrance. "Transgender Day of Remembrance seeks to highlight the losses we face due to anti-transgender bigotry and violence. I am no stranger to the need to fight for our rights, and the right to simply exist is first and foremost. With so many seeking to erase transgender people -- sometimes in the most brutal ways possible -- it is vitally important that those we lose are remembered, and that we continue to fight for justice." _... Transgender Day of Remembrance founder Gwendolyn Ann Smith Follow @wilfridlaurieruni on Instagram for our T.D.O.R takeover and join Laurier Brantford Queer Sphere at tonight’s vigil at 7pm to honour the lives of those lost to anti-transgender violence. https://fb.me/e/1UwHUWc2M

Today, across the country, folks pause and remember to commemorate the 14 women who were murdered by a gunman chanting "I hate feminists" on December 6, 1989 at the École Polytechnique in Montreal. We mourn. We remember. We rage. We take action. In 1991 December 6th was designated a national day of remembrance with the explicit intention of drawing awareness to broader acts of violence against women in Canada. Recently, events have shifted in focus away from memorializing the... victims of this horrific moment in our history and toward conversations about how to address the broader and complex issue of gender-based violence. BIPOC, immigrant, LGBTQ2, poor and working class, fat and bigger bodied, institutionalized, criminalized, and disabled woman and non binary folks are targeted with experiences of gender-based violence and face significant barriers in accessing support and accountability. Alyson Kowalewsky stated that The murders that took place at École Polythenique were tragic and unimaginable and we need to take the steps to ensure that such acts of misogyny never occur again. But the reality is that violence is occurring every day in different forms ranging from physical violence to racism and homophobia, to colonialism, and these acts of violence are not addressed by a commemoration of a specific massacre. In order to end gender-based violence we must work collectively to challenge all intersecting experiences of violence. We know that when women, trans and non binary folks come together we collectively hold an incredible wealth of magic, resilience, strength, knowledge, and creativity. We need to act in solidarity with each other. Today and everyday. This year WLU’s Sexual Violence Education Action Group worked with artist @srichartist to create this image as a reminder that we deserve support and solidarity- from ourselves, our friends, our families and our communities. <3 We deserve better. Image Caption: Three women are standing in the sun. The text above them reads, "We deserve support and solidarity". One woman is a light skin Black woman with a small afro who is wearing a green shirt. The second woman is a white woman with long blonde hair who is wearing a dark blue shirt. The third woman is a dark skin Black woman with a large afro who is wearing a pink shirt. Underneath them, the text reads, "together, we can end gender-based violence." Caption by @consentisgolden
