Students: Registration deadline for this awesome event is closing in a week! The University of Lethbridge and Lethbridge College are proud to co-host the second annual Cor Van Raay Agribusiness Case Competition which will be held October 28th and 29th, 2016. This unique competition is the first of its kind in Western Canada. This event is for College and University undergraduate students in Agricultural Sciences, Business Administration, Commerce and Management programs. Stu...dents will gain team work experience and problem solving skills by seeking innovative ways to improve current practices. Teams will analyze a written case, create and present solutions to a panel of judges demonstrating their acumen in the areas of agriculture and agribusiness. Over two days, participants will have the opportunity to network with sponsors, industry professionals, faculty and fellow students.

Assist with preparing field research areas, by measuring accurately, placing flags/stakes, and taking soil samples. Prepare experimental treatments by weighing seed, fertilizer, or other materials prior to application in the field. Assist with planting research plots. Collect essential data on research plots. Provide input on ways to solve problems as they arise in the field. Maintain research plots through trimming, weeding and mowing. Help with preparing for and hosting field days and tours throughout the summer. Support harvest operations, assisting with combining Most of the work during the summer months will be outdoors and may involve overtime. Class 5 driver’s licence will be required. Familiarity with farm, landscaping, or research equipment operation is highly desired. The work will be a combination of small-scale intensive crop production with considerable precise and accurate data collection. These positions are based out of the Agriculture Research Centre on the eastern outskirts of Lethbridge. The employment period is May 1, 2015 through August 31, 2015. All candidates must be planning to return to educational programs in September 2015. These positions are classified as Technologies 1 with an hourly pay of $18.95/hr or greater. Excellence award for ag students is now open Farm Management Canada (FMC) and the Canadian Association of Diploma in Agriculture Programs (CADAP) have joined forces to offer an award designed to encourage students to improve their communication and leadership skills through a national competition. FMC and CADAP are collecting submissions from agricultural students across Canada and will award three winners with scholarships towards furthering their education in agriculture. ...First place stands to win $1,500. The award is designed to help students develop their communication skills by having the opportunity to voice their opinion on a on a subject related to farm management. Students are asked to submit a multimedia presentation, a video, a Twitter chat, a blog or a Wiki, responding to the following question: How can the agricultural industry best support young farmers looking to succeed in an ever-competitive and complex global marketplace?
