COVID19 does not give providers permission to strip you of your rights. 1. You do NOT have to be tested. Period. You don't have to explain why, and you don't ne...ed any kind of excuse. 2. They CANNOT take your baby from you if you refuse to be tested. 3. They CANNOT take your baby if you test positive for COVID. *Both the WHO & RCOG strongly recommend keeping mother and baby together, even if mom tests positively. You can show this resource to your provider if they say otherwise: WHO- https://www.who.int//clinical-management-of-severe-acute-r RCOG- https://www.rcog.org.uk//covid-19-virus-infection-and-pr/ 4. There is NO medical reason to stop breastfeeding if you test positive. Current research shows no evidence of the illness being transmitted via breast milk. Breast milk does however have valuable antibodies to build your baby's immune system. If you planned to breastfeed, it is 100% safe. CDC link about COVID & breast feeding- https://www.cdc.gov//need-ex/pregnancy-breastfeeding.html 5. They CANNOT make you wear a mask while laboring/pushing. You can voice that you are uncomfortable, and take it off. YOU get to decide what you consent to, COVID does not change that. https://evidencebasedbirth.com/covid19/ This has A TON of evidence based links and info that goes along with this post. Evidence Based Birth is a very solid source of information. - https://www.who.int//clinical-management-of-severe-acute-r This link leads to the manual linked in point 3, in case that link doesn’t download correctly for you! I learned something new! I was needing an IV stand for my upcoming Homebirth (2vbac), and someone suggested I contact the Seniors Centre in Ingersoll. They had an IV pole and they lend out medical equipment for FREE. Super helpful! I am sure they have things like bath and shower seats as well. Handy to know for those planning a Homebirth. They have an IV stand on wheels or one that stands on solid feet and is collapsible.
Hoping all my clients had a blessed Mother’s Day weekend! A happy belated 1st Birthday to miss Nova, who turned 1 on December 5th! Born at exactly the right time last year between two weekends of plays - she’s my hero! Hope your day was full of memories
During this time of uncertainty and limited access for support in the hospitals, here’s a resource for expectant parents who may have to be their own Doula My thoughts are with everyone facing birth on their own without the help of Doula
These dilation pumpkins are the scariest thing I’ve seen all night. It was set up by midwives at the Royal Oldham Hospital in Lancashire, England as part of a pumpkin decorating competition.
Today is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day, October is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month. Have you had a miscarriage? What were the worst and be...st things people said or did surrounding your loss? Statics tell is that 1 in 4 known pregnancies end in pregnancy loss, or miscarriage. That's not a small amount. You'd think our society would be equipped by now to acknowledge how traumatic this loss can be.
