Dear Cagibi community, the Cagiboutique is getting a makeover and in the meantime, we need your help! We are looking for some materials that will give us the chance to economically and ecologically reorganise the space. We specifically need : long plywood planks (60x15 '' or 72x20'' minimum), shelves (35'' long) and brackets. We will also need pastel-colored acrylic or latex paint (especially pink). If you are planning to come, contact us! The best time would be weekday afternoons, but we can arrange something. We're excited to see you again!

À très bientôt L'équipe du Cagibi x Dear neighbors, cagilovers supporters & fans, we have a bit of news for you! After a few days of team brainstorming, we decided that the Cagibi - both coffee shop and boutique - would remain closed for the next few weeks. Our planned reopening is currently set to take place around April's end. It's no secret, the pandemic was and still is heavy weighing on us - but we're still here and still alive! We therefore find ourselves in the obligation to reshape our space and modify our offers in order to thrive in a market that endured pretty intense changes in the past year - and we ought to do so without losing our unique personnality! We intend to use the upcoming weeks to ensure that this spring, our spring, will be grand! Miss you all so much already! Thanks for your support and can't wait to see you again Cagibi team x

Declaration of the Inmates of the Laval Detention Centre Act now: Appel à l’action : Libérez les détenu-e-s! We are a group of migrants detained at the Laval De...tention Center. With this letter we wish to denounce the conditions in which we are being held at the Center. For some time now, the COVID virus has entered the prison. The sanitary measures taken by the immigration officers are clearly insufficient. Some of the detainees have already contracted COVID. Others complained of pain similar to the symptoms of COVID but were given only Tylenol. We are in a lot of pain. We had also been confined to separate rooms without receiving any psychological assistance. We are distraught and very fearful for our health. In our opinion, using detention as an immigration policy is in all times an inhuman and unjust measure, with or without COVID. On the other hand, we are announcing that we have started an indefinite hunger strike starting March 1st to contest the treatment we are receiving. We are asking to be released from the Laval Detention Center because it is a place where the virus can spread, and it is only a matter of time before we are all infected. This is a call for help. We want to be treated with dignity and above all we want to be protected in this time of pandemic like every Canadian citizen. oh hi there angel we are looking to hire 1-2 workers. salary is 13.10$/h + tip (which usually brings us to 16/17$/h). to qualify you must:... be bilingual; have some relevant group and/or non-hierarchical work experience + some relevant café/restaurant experience; be ready and willing to do more than working on the floor, including some volunteer hours for administrative purposes (meetings, communications etc). being a member of a workers' coop is a beautiful experience of self-determination and community building, but it demands more involvement than punching in//punching out!! especially considering the circumstances of COVID-19 and its impact on small businesses. ideally you would: have solid experience working in kitchens; have solid barista experience; feel comfortable with communications & social media; have workers' coop experience; make damn good playlists. Applicants have until march 10th to submit their CV at [email protected] No need to write a sophisticated motivation letter, a short paragraph describing your skills and your CV will suffice. The interviews will probably be in French. Looking forward to hear from you and meet you!! Gloria Ezeckiel Emi & Mycelium

-- Vast resources are given to the SPVM to harass, ticket, arrest, displace, and abuse homeless people every day. That money could be divested from the SPVM and invested in housing instead. The Valérie Plante / Projet Montréal government, however, refuses the #defundthepolice and reinvest in communities. They're proposing a $14.6 million increase in the SPVM operating budget and a $6 million increase in SPVM infrastructure (buildings, cars). Beyond investing in housing, addressing human rights violations of homeless people starts with recognizing the right to occupy public space and no longer paying police officers to attempt to displace people.

While 60% of Montrealers have expressed their desire to defund the police (see Results of the survey, bit.ly/3lFoTQb), Valérie Plante wants to increase the SPVM budget by $14.6 million in 2021. Do Black lives matter in Montreal? Not now.
