Earth Day 2021 We are stewards of this amazing planet we call home Here are a few ideas to celebrate Earth Day!!... 1 Walk/bike instead of driving where possible 2 Turn off lights if they’re not needed. 3 Put trash in the garbage. Recycle & compost, too 4 Avoid fast fashion by buying a few good quality items and mix them up instead of buying umpteen cheap stuff that end up in the landfill. Did you know that 84% of clothing ends up in landfills? Try to shop at goodwill stores instead of always buying new. #earthday2021 #earthdayeveryday #earthdayactivities #carefortheplanet #happywithless #minimalist #toomuchstuff #dontwaste
Developing empathy in our kids means noticing other people around them. Are they feeling good? Or are they upset? Was someone teased in a mean way during class? Help your children to see that classmate who needs support and a friendly face. It’s a great way of creating a culture of kindness and acceptance of others. ... #empathy #empathymatters #kindness #kindnessmatters #bekind #bekindtooneanother #socialawareness #socialskills
Patients are being treated with the best standards of healthcare in many hospitals. But let’s not forget about the importance of empathy in helping people heal. Patients and family members aren’t able to see one another so the staff become the pseudo-family for their patients. The human touch is integral in the healing process, too. I know of a nurse who had a very agitated Covid patient. She tried to alleviate his condition. No luck until she thought maybe all he needs is ...for someone to hold his hand. Worked like a charm!! He calmed right down. It was very humbling for her and made her realize how critical the human touch is. There’s no question that the workload is very tough right now. As a result, the need for empathy is even greater. #empathy #empathymatters #healing #patientcare #love #humantouch
Sometimes we make the mistake of living provisionally in the future. It goes something like I’ll be happy when (fill in the blank) happens. But maybe that event will never happen or something else happens instead. We can’t let circumstances dictate how we are or will react. They shift and change continually. That’s why we need the solid foundation of our character to help us weather the small & big challenges of life. An awareness of etiquette is one element of character ...that helps us deal with circumstances and/or people with grace and dignity. Real growth always happens outside of the comfort zone!! #etiquette #etiquettematters #character #strongcharacter #emotionalintelligence #emotionalhealth #lifeisbeautiful #getoutofyourcomfortzone

There is a trend in many households to eliminate the landline in favor of smartphones. Still, this shouldn’t let your kids off the hook of learning good phone manners. Consider the following: 1 Use appropriate greetings & closures. Refrain from saying Hey or Yo rather Hello or Hi. When the call ends, say Thanks for calling. Bye Avoid just hanging up when the call is finished. 2 Don’t assume that the person who answers the call is the one you want to talk to. S...peak clearly and respectfully to whomever answers letting them know who you want to speak with. Use please & thank you. Hello, Mrs. Smith, may I speak to Ted, please? 3 Don’t be preoccupied. Don’t be eating while talking on the phone. Or arguing with a sibling in the same room. It’s annoying and not showing good manners. 4 Check the clock. Most families don’t appreciate calls made too early or late in the day. Even if smartphones are the choice of electronic communication in the home, it’s still important to teach good phone manners. For example, your teen might have a part time job at the local pizza place. Think of how confident he/she will be in knowing how to be polite with customers who call in their orders. Plus, desk phones are still part of the business world. #etiquette #phoneetiquette #phoneconversations #etiquettetips #etiquetteexpert #kidsandphones #confidenceiskey #confidentkids #confidentteens

Spring is here and the snow is slowly melting in some locations. Let’s remember to keep our beautiful forests clean by picking up our trash. It’s a sign of being respectful & responsible with our environment. #forestwalk ... #hikingtrails #pickupyourtrash #respectnature #goodrolemodel #enjoynaturesbeauty #enjoynature See more
A sad day...HRH Queen Elizabeth has lost her rock and support of over 70 years. In private, she deferred to his support and advice. A family left to grieve...
I would love to have afternoon tea with Queen Elizabeth. Would you like that, too? Good manners dictate that you pour the tea for your guests, first, as the Queen does. Other tips include: 1 Don’t put the milk in first. You need to see the strength of the tea once it has been poured. So think about being ... post-lactarian. Tea first then lactose!! However, in the 19th century such as in Downton Abbey, the aristocracy would have used fine bone china which would not have cracked with hot liquid being poured. But the household staff would have used cheaper clay mugs that would have cracked. So pouring a little cold milk beforehand helped keep the hot liquid from cracking the mug. 2 Avoid stirring in a circular motion as the spoon might tap the cup making noise. Rather go back and forth quietly in a 6/12 pattern. Don’t even think of licking the spoon before placing it on the saucer!! 3 Do as the Queen and let guests add in milk and/or sugar as they wish. Making a good first impression is very important whether on paper or in electronic form. Remember that judgements are made about us especially if we are applying for a job or connecting with a new client. We want to convey that we are competent and into the details. The wannabe English teacher in me comes out in full force!! Let’s not be lazy when using the Queen’s English. THEIR - Is that their blue football?... THEY’RE - They’re having fun playing football. THERE - There will be a rainstorm soon. Please don’t depend on autocorrect. #english #englishteacher #queensenglish #firstimpressions #literate #resumetips
