You Belong at the Table. Navigating official spaces can be challenging. I've seen my fair share of this, particularly with my clients who are woman in STEM. I've lost count of how many times I've heard them say they have had their words repeated by a man & only then was it taken seriously. In my own career, I've had men explain things to me as if I didn't understand. I've been made to feel like I'm not deserving of being in some spaces - regardless of my qualifications.... I want to say that I've always brushed off these moments and taken them in my stride. But, there are times where I was deeply affected by these actions. After years of experience in my field, I've learned to hold on to one thing. Whenever I feel uneasy or if I'm not taken seriously, I remind myself of this: "I'VE WORKED JUST AS HARD TO GET TO BE HERE. THE KNOWELEDGE I HAVE IS CREDIBLE AND EFFECTIVE. I BELONG AT THIS TABLE" Sometimes, I have to say this to myself more than once but it helps me find my voice and stand up for what I believe in. You belong where you are. You didn't get there by chance and the value you bring to the space is valuable.
