March 26, 2020 Eviction freeze doesn't mean don't pay your rent FREDERICTON: The provincial government's freeze on evictions until the end of May doesn't mean tenants can or should stop paying their rent, Premier Blaine Higgs said Wednesday. Last week, as part of the province's state of emergency declaration over COVID-19, Higgs announced that no one can be kicked out of a rental property until at least May 31. But on Wednesday, he explained what the eviction freeze doesn't m...ean. "We are not saying tenants don't have to pay rent, " Higgs said. "They absolutely do. "We're simply asking for flexibility that may be required as people and businesses lose income, and we cannot have unnecessary moving activity." But then added a warning. "At some point, every tenant is going to need to make arrangements with their landlord concerning their rent, or they will indeed find themselves evicted just not now through May 31, " he said.

We will not be scheduling any non essential work orders and, where necessary, will be taking all precautions, such as hand-sanitizing, using disinfecting wipes and/or gloves and practic...ing all safety measures when we must attend a property for emergencies. There is an abundance of communication out there on social media surrounding rent payments, etc... Please be aware that much of this information is written by ill-informed individuals.
