Hi folks, I'm looking forward to presenting ANTARCTIC IN DEPTH tomorrow night at the Max Cameron Theatre in Powell River.... it's the first time I will be prese...nting in Powell River and I look forward to introducing myself, my photography and sharing a few stories with you from my experiences as Photographer in residence aboard expedition ships in Antarctica! Antarctica has been in the news lately for its record breaking temperatures, I just returned from 40 days down on the "White Continent" and just happened to be near Esperanza Research Station where that temperature reached its all time high. This 1.5 hr evening presentation showcases the Antarctic Peninsula and South Georgia in the South Sandwich Islands, highlights the wildlife, landscape and relevant environmental concerns that are occurring here and now in this remote region of our big blue marble! This is a partial fundraiser for the Powell River Climbing Co-op, co-sponsored by COAST MOUNTAIN ACADEMY I look forward to spending an evening with you! We greatly appreciate the opportunity to connect young people with amazing mentors. LEAP staff & the culture they create are our greatest assets.
We are so uplifted by well informed, astute and passionate youth. It’s not always easy to do the right thing. Remember, if the status quo is upset - it’s likely because you are on the right side of history. It’s always such a pleasure to see @ericacawley (@leapcanada 2012 & @coastmountainacademy 2013 alumni). She works seasonally at @prclimbingcoop and also guides for @powellriverseakayak during the summer months. Erica is a bright, uplifting and a real positive force in this life.
Please join the LEAP community at this great event! Alumni welcome as well! #FreeSolo is showing Wed March 6th, 7:00 at the Patricia Theatre.

In Sweden, 15-year-old Greta Thunberg has been protesting inaction on climate change since August, going on strike from school every Friday to sit outside her c...ountry's parliament. Greta writes for the Guardian Australia about why she believes Australian students should join her: "The adults have failed us. And since most of them, including the press and the politicians, keep ignoring the situation, we must take action into our own hands, starting today." full Guardian story: https://gu.com/p/a274h/au Greta at Extinction Rebellion (Oct, 2018) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H8prVarP-rQ Excellent Sustainable Hour interview with Greta: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3poPEkiEeqI Greta's school strike speech (Swedish, English subs) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SrGp56ViaJs New Internationalist interview with Greta (English subtitles) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mmM9gmbx4tk "In general Greta prefers action to conversation. In undertaking her school strike, she was inspired by the protests staged by American high-school students in response to the Parkland shooting this yearThunberg’s sit-in is also a walkout." (from the New Yorker): https://www.newyorker.com//the-fifteen-year-old-climate-ac On November 30th, thousands of Australian students left school to protest climate change inaction by their government. One of the organizers, Milou Albrecht, said she had been inspired by Greta's activism. See full story (NY Times): https://www.nytimes.com//student-strike-climate-change.html
