Coyotes are predator animals and will chase if you run away. Coyotes are usually quite shy around humans and will go away on their own. If approached you should stand tall, and if necessary, you can make sounds like clapping or yelling at them which should be enough for them to go away.

Warm weather is here and there might be increased sightings of coyotes. Please do not feed the coyotes as we do not want them to be habituated to humans. Coyotes will normally avoid humans. If you see an aggressive, sick or injured coyote, please call Mississauga Animal Services 24/7 at 905-896-5858 and choose option one immediately.

The City’s Park, Forestry and Environment Division is looking for feedback to help them plan for the future of the City’s in-ground dog waste containers in parks. The current program has piloted containers in select leash-free zones around the City. They are looking to gauge awareness of the program and preferences for potential future container locations. Please go to http://bit.ly/dog-waste-survey.

Leash Free Mississauga 29.04.2020

Happy New Year and welcome to 2020 and a new decade! If your New Years Resolution was to volunteer and get more involved in your community, please consider joining Leash Free Mississauga as we would be excited and appreciative to have you! Based on the 2018 Canadian Animal Health Institute study, 41% of Canadian households have at least one dog. As such, we estimate that Mississauga has 298,443 dog owners in our communities. Unfortunately, LFM only has 824 email subscribers a...nd out of that, just 437 contributing members. Study: https://www.cahi-icsa.ca//latest-canadian-pet-population-f For 2020, LFM board members voted to eliminate membership fees to help increase the number of subscribers and volunteers. Though donations are important for improvements to Leash-Free Parks and administrative expenses, having a greater number of subscribers and volunteers will enable LFM to have a strong voice in our pets’ welfare and request for additional Leash-Free Parks in our city. We are in the initial stages of planning a large LFM Dog event in Mississauga, with the focus on helping educate our neighbours, increase the subscription numbers to Leash Free and demonstrate to the city that we are a strong and vibrant community of pet owners and lovers who should be heard. We need volunteers to help plan, organize and run this event. Please register your dog, subscribe to receive emails and, more importantly, be an active member of our LFM volunteer community.

This holiday season, please lend a helping hand or paw to a fellow LFM park member. Any assistance is greatly appreciated. https://tinyurl.com/rcshp9x "Tyrone was just diagnosed with potentially life threatening bladder stones and needs them removed ASAP. He’s on antibiotics now until I can get the cash together. Estimates from my vet $3,381.04 to $4,020.07. This includes castration which the vet considers necessary. Now I’ve been on and off work for quite a long time so my savings are depleted. I’m calling on all you that can help with any amount of a donation. We live in Mississauga, Canada. I can’t live without this boy. Since my son died this October, Tyrone is the only thing keeping me going. God bless you all."
