LEFT COAST WOOD COMPANY 09.11.2020

Utensils! I make them now, apparently! A couple of weeks ago a kindly older gentleman approached me at the market and asked if I'd be able to replicate an item for him. He reached into his bag and pulled out two halves of an ancient, small wooden spatula that had been...well loved. I couldn't possibly deny his request, and now a new product is in my repertoire! As many of you already know, I hate to waste wood. Consequently, each spatula is made of lumber that would otherwise... be destined for the scrap bin. I don't use a template so each one is hand-shaped and an original unto itself! I'm currently at the @artisansshowcase holiday market at the #pentictontradeandconventioncentre this weekend. Come for a visit and check out ALL the other amazing local vendors!

Chipping away at a spalted alder project with my vintage Swedish-made chisels. Attempting to create some unique, hand-carved edge profiles...so far, so good!

Today, I'm thankful for not only everyone who has come out this year to support local businesses, but also for my whole @kelownafarmersmarket family. These are genuinely the coolest group of humans I've ever had the pleasure to meet!!! This amazingly detailed board was made by the soulfully talented Dylan Olufsen of @arboralchemy and I FREAKING LOVE IT. Check out the brilliant jewelry he crafts with locally sourced wood! Lego banana for scale. Also...Lego Batman approves (from the shadows of course).

Art deco vibes, anyone? I dig the melding of gentle curves and circles with the sharp angles and chamfered edges. While each and every one of my larger boards is a unique, custom made piece...this is a design I might be riffing off of for the next little while.
