A big thank you to Poul Mark for coming to speak to our students in Environmentally and Socially Sustainable Business about Transcend Coffee. It was awesome to learn more about the coffee industry and how it can be done more sustainably. The Leder School of Business offers students a unique learning experience by showing them everything they need to know about running a successful business but also how to take into account the effects businesses can have on Creation. Specifically in Environmentally and Socially Sustainable Business, student are shown that it is possible to have a business that has two purposes: both financial and social missions.

Meet Ethan Soltys, LBA’s VP External: My name is Ethan Soltys, and I am a Bachelor of Commerce student with a History and Philosophy double minor entering my third year of study in 2020-2021. In my first year of study at King’s, I was elected to be a First-Year Representative for the Students’ Association; this provided me with the opportunity to observe the process of student governance and learn how it worked. In my first year, I was able to be an active listener to the st...udents and bring their concerns forward to the executive board, attended an Alberta Students’ Executive Council meeting as well as address and give input on needs facing the student body. This experience, as well as my two years as a Student Ambassador, four on-campus employment(s), being able to work with the Students’ Association and Level to produce merchandise, and switching to the Bachelor of Commerce program, has provided me with ample experience and knowledge to help aid the LBA in representing The King's University Business students. #thekingsu #studentleaders #lederbiz See more

Meet Benjamin Jacques - LBA’s VP Internal * Note: Ben travelled to South Korea in February with a group of other Business students. The Covid-19 virus became a serious concern for South Korea while the group was travelling. On their return, all the students were directed to self-isolate for 14 days. This was a time when the virus had yet to impact us here in Canada. Ben wrote this in early March while self-isolating in his dorm room: I am currently writing this while sittin...g in my room, missing all my classes, quarantined due to a virus. I have recently returned from South Korea on a University Business Trip. While on this trip the Coronavirus (COVID-19) spread across the country forcing us to take precautions such as wearing masks and constant hand sanitizing for two weeks. This may sound irritating and troublesome however, I would do it all again in a heartbeat. I would do it again because I got to travel to another continent, experience a new culture, and build relationships with some amazing co-students and a professor. I think I loved it so much because this is what business is truly about, never knowing what's going to be the next obstacle and always having that quick mindedness to come up with a Plan B. One of the best parts about these obstacles is that none of the "Plan B's" could have been thought of on our own. We all needed each other's support and pressure to make that next move, even if it was a little nerve-wracking. This trip taught me to be open minded and accept different routes that were not planned. The reason I have joined the LBA is that I got a taste of the "real" world of business and I believe that because of this I will be an asset to building up a strong community of business students. It is important to me that everyone gets the opportunity to learn and experience business in different circumstances. #studentleaders #thekingsu #lederbiz See more

Introducing Faith Carnegie, LBA’s new VP of Marketing I am currently a first-year business student in the environmental management stream. This past academic year I had the opportunity to be the first-year rep on the LBA. Through this I learnt how the LBA operates and what is involved in running an association. This year with the LBA I hope to have more pizza lunches for business students. #thekingsu #lederbiz #studentleaders

Today we introduce you to another member of our LBA. Meet Julie Tabler - VP Administration I switched into the business program in the middle of my first year. I really enjoy the sense of community that is present among business students which was one of the reasons I switched my program. I feel that I am a good candidate for the LBA because I have a background working in teams and planning events through my involvement in 4-H. I have also held leadership roles in the past ...for extracurricular clubs and believe that I am well-equipped with the skills to be a student leader. I am organized, motivated, and will be a great asset for the LBA due to my past experience with other organizations. By being part of the LBA, I hope to be a catalyst for change and further develop as a leader. Two areas I would like to improve are as follows: 1. Feedback - I believe the best way for the LBA to continue to improve and more effectively serve business students is through honest feedback from other students and I want to encourage this by remaining approachable and fostering a welcoming environment. 2. Community building - I want to encourage more students to attend LBA events and activities as I think they are so important for enriching the business student experience and for creating the unique community that is found in our faculty. The business faculty has so much to offer and I want to contribute to it by getting involved and being on the LBA. Some fun facts about myself are that I work at a bee farm, I'm a commuter, and I love dogs! Thank you for electing to for the LBA executive team! #thekingsu #studentleaders #lederbiz See more

Meet the LBA’s new VP of Finance, Jenae Charlebois. Hello fellow business students! For those of you who don't know me my name is Jenae, I'm currently a third-year accounting student and I am super excited to be a part of the LBA again this year. I know I will be a great asset to the team because of the previous experience I have on the LBA. Specifically, last year I was the Second Year Rep for the LBA and this year I was the VP of Administration. As well, I'm very organized, good with numbers and thoughtful while planning which will definitely be an advantage to have on the association. Volunteering with the LBA has taught me how to be a team player and has also made me appreciate the work that goes into planning the events. I look forward to all the things we can do for business students next year.

Meet LBA’s New President York Dudiak I am York Dudiak, currently a second-year business major who is excited to be next year's LBA president! I enjoy serving on the LBA for many reasons, from the people I get to work with, to reasoning through the logistics of our events. My favorite part, however, is being able to provide my fellow business students with a better program and fun events that enhance both their university experience at King’s, as well as their careers in the f...uture. Throughout my two years serving on the LBA, I have acquired a clear understanding of the commitments and responsibilities associated with this role. I understand how the organization runs and what is needed, which will allow me to start the next year smoothly while incorporating fresh ideas. I am invested in the LBA and its pursuits, as I have largely played a role in producing and refining many of the events and activities we facilitate. I plan to focus on better merging the LBA into the business program through integrated events and outside engagement, which will serve a greater number of students more effectively. I want to further the interests of business students by coordinating with other faculties along with King’s affiliates to best use the resources available to us at King’s. I am committed to enriching the experience of business students at King's through LBA activities. #lederbiz #thekingsu #studentleaders See more
