Very well said Peter. We so often don't hear the whole story and I think a lot of Nova Scotians do know deer are the main reason we don't have mainland moose any more. Beautiful pictures of a managed forest too!

Remember yesterday when we said name wood products in or around your home? Did you list toothpaste, medication, nail polish, & your LCD screens?! Most Canadians are familiar with traditional forest products like lumber, newsprint, tissue & packaging, but there are also wood components in a wide variety of other products that Canadians use every day: By breaking wood down into its central componentscellulose, hemi-cellulose & ligninit is possible to produce a range of substances that are needed to manufacture a variety of common household products from a renewable resource! Check it out!

Happy National Forest Week! 100 years of celebrating Canada's healthy forests! To participate do one of the following today: 1. Take a walk in woods nearby & get to know your forest, how many species can you identify? 2. Identify all the things at home or school that are made of wood! 3. Participate in the Canadian Institute of Forestry's photo contest by taking a picture of a forest & submitting it to [email protected] #NationalForestWeek #healthyforestshealthyfuture

A little heavy to read by why are lumber prices at record highs? One of the main reasons is the unexpected boom in remodelling across North America, read on if interested!

Are you visiting the 'Gentle Island' this summer? Be sure to check out the beautiful new Anne of Green Gables Visitor Centre in Cavendish designed by Root Architecture. It not only uses 100% renewable energy but was built using local materials including - you guessed it - WOOD!!! One of the first projects in Atlantic Canada to use mass timber framing & nail-laminated timber it is breath-taking As one of the most visited Federal Parks in Canada & an Iconic tourist destination you owe it to your self to check it out! #woodfirst #mostsustainablebuildingmaterial #forestsprovide #woodisgood #forestsourfuture

Check out this awesome wood bridge linking Amherst & Springhill! Its the longest clear-span 3-laned timber bridge in Canada with a 75-100 year predicted service life. Since its made of wood it sequesters 350 tonnes of CO2! http://wood-works.ca//2020/07/The-Roger-Bacon-Bridge-Nappa #woodfirst #mostsustainablebuildingmaterial #woodisgood #climatechangeaction #sequesteringcarbon

For the past month we have seen lumber demand rise - especially 2x4 8', as the remodelling market remains strong in Atlantic Canada & beyond. As such, we are increasing roundwood prices by $4 respectively to $76/tonne for Spruce and $69/tonne for fir/spruce mix, plus applicable long distance bonuses effective Monday. As always we are buying stumpage & private woodlots. If you are a new supplier please call ahead to get set up in our vendor list. Lastly, if you are interested in our millwood spec please phone Rob or Shawn to discuss further. The millwood spec applies to those suppliers who bring us good quality studwood, it is a solution for woodlot owners to find markets for their various product mix. Enjoy the heat wave & stay hydrated!

Words cannot express the sorrow that we all continue to feel for the many families affected by this senseless act. Lisa was full of life and energy, and such a wonderful mother. Here's hoping this helps in some small way. #novascotiastrong

We don't believe fishing season should be delayed when it's a sport you can enjoy alone in the outdoors. Sign the petition to encourage the NS government to amend the delay!

"Overall, home buyers can expect the housing market to remain stable in 2020. This sentiment appears to be validated by economists, lenders and builders alike." - Conclusion on the American housing market in this article: fingers crossed!

So exciting! Great to hear more and more projects like this happening in Canada and being recognized as THE way to go for the environment!

Ledwidge Lumber 22.03.2020

Yup. Henry Van Berkel hits the nail on the head. Good read in today's Opinions section of the Chronicle Herald. We need a realistic vision for forestry in Nova Scotia with viable markets for all of a woodlot owner's products, not a bandaid.
