This album is in honor and memory of our dear friend Gordon who left us April 25, 2019. A great man with a heart of gold. These images are some of Gordon's favorites and some of our favorites. Gordon is greatly missed by all of us, I hope that some of these images put a smile on your face and maybe bring you back to the day you may have met or come across Gordon in his travels along the roads of Leeds & Grenville. Images courtesy of: Gordon Beck, Phil Norton, John Chambers, Alan Hustak, Allen McInnis.

Ironically it began with a photograph by Kathi Langston. On April 12th, 2016 Gordon Beck launched Leeds & Grenville Rural Landscapes, a Facebook page for his images and thoughts gathered exploring the backroads of Leeds & Grenville Counties, with Ms. Langston's image of the dawn lighting a dirt backroad. Three people liked the post. Small beginnings, but eventually huge aspirations. The starting point was to provide a medium for Gordon's Barn Project. He had a passion to docu...Continue reading

Today marks Gordon's Birthday. As you know Gordon was one to love overcast, rain and winter storms when we headed out to photograph L&G. I am also one who loves storms and storm chasing, although these may not feature barns they do show our landscape under angry skies. Here's to you Gordon...Happy Birthday

It is my pleasure to introduce you to LLoyd and Ruby Ann Chase of Lyn, Ontario. Proud owners and keepers of this circa 1850's beautiful 3 bay barn. Located on 100 acres of land along Yonge Mills Rd. this barn once was home to 12 to 15 head of cattle and also housed a few horses. Lloyd tells me that way back on the property lies a grave stone that he has found with the help of family but mentions it is difficult to get to and hard to find as overgrown brush has taken over. Ru...by Ann mentions she is 6th generation of Ruby Ann's on her side of the family dating back to the 1800's. Lloyd has meticulously taken care of this grand structure re-pointing the stone foundation himself and replacing many barn boards. The wonderful quilt square that is proudly on display on the front of the barn was given to them by their grand daughters who fabricated the quilt while attending 4H club. Regional Contact Revisited was not in the books but this day proved to me that Mr. Beck was directing this segment from above. Accompanied by friends and photogs Allen McInnis - Montreal, Tina Reilly from Millbrook, NY. Phil Norton - Picton, and Clifford Skarstedt - Peterborough. Our day started out heading towards Lyn driving down Kilkenny Rd. when i spotted a barn out of the corner of my eye. Mentioning to our driver Phil "before we head into Lyn I want to go check out tha...t barn". Now I had set up the Regional Contact segment for Gordon with Joel Haslem but never new where they went that day, I watched the segment but never paid any mind to what barn he visited. So to my surprise the first barn we visited was that same barn from the segment. I was completely blown away and somehow found myself wondering if this was coincidence or serendipity as if I was directed by Gordon to pay Mr. Willie Dunster a visit. This 1850's barn at 4227 Perth St. stands majestic on a slight incline that adds to it grandeur. Willie tells us that the barn is owned by his brother Paul and was once owned by Elvin Gardiner. A cloudy overcast day proved to be in our favor as Gordon and I loved photographing on days such as these. Photos: John Chambers See more

Hello to all Leeds and Grenville Rural Landscapes followers and friends. I hope you all can forgive me for for taking so long in posting and getting back out on our beautiful back roads of Leeds and Grenville. Over the past little while I have been quite busy sorting and going through notes, images and ephemera handed down to me by our dear friend Gordon. To coin a Willy Nelson phrase I am "On The Road Again" in search of your history, your stories and of course those beautiful Cathedrals of the Fields. Gordon has left me a list of places to revisit and there are still new barns to find and document. Before I begin, I would like to thank each and everyone of you who took the time to send sympathy notes and beautiful comments to Ewa and family, they were very much loved and appreciated, we read every one of them. Thank you, John
