I can't believe it is already Wednesday! The weeks just fly by. As a big proponent of the book THE FIVE LANGUAGES OF APPRECIATION IN THE WORKPLACE I would just like to offer another point of view on how helpful this can be in the workplace. Sometimes we forget how nice it is to get a quick "Thanks" or "Well done," on the job. It really does help to motivate people to do even better. Here is Jack Welch's take on the subject. http://www.linkedin.com//20131104192204-86541065-four-sure

At the start of another week I'd like to talk about the dreaded yearly evaluation meeting with your manager. If you are like the majority of people this is on par with going to the dentist or for your annual checkup after the age of 50. But it doesn't have to be. The secret is to start collecting material on all of the things that you do over the course of a year that improves processes, procedures, spreadsheets, communication. . . and thereby adds to the smoother running of ...the organization. All you need to start is a folder. Yup, that's right, a folder labelled EVALUATION. Then start putting things into the folder that you are proud of and demonstrate your skills. It can be anything from an email a client sent telling you how wonderful you are, to a revised spreadsheet that you helped to create, to a summary of a project you worked on with your colleagues that was successful. Review the material you have collected over the year a week before the interview and go into that meeting with your manager confident that you have made a positive contribution to the organzation. It really is that simple. I'd love to hear other ideas on how to prepare for an evaluation, and also want to share an article THE ONE THING SUCCESSFUL PEOPLE DO EVERY DAY, that reminds us of the importance of acknowledging our successes. http://ca.finance.yahoo.com//one-thing-successful-people-e

Does the universe accelerate speed after Thanksgiving? I am amazed at how quickly the weeks fly by and grateful for the organizational tools I've picked up over the years. On that note I'd like to share a great resource with everyone -- THE CANADA/MANITOBA BUSINESS SERVICE CENTRE. I attended Susan Hurrell's Social Media Kickstarter seminar yesterday. She had a brilliant idea for making the management of Social Media manageable. Susan uses an Editorial Calendar and a Content Repository to manage social media sites. This is definitely an organizational tool that I will add to my toolbox. If you have a chance to attend one of Susan Hurrell's seminars you won't be disappointed. Check out her facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/ModernSusan or follow her on Twitter at: @modernsusan.

Ah, the start of another week. Today I'd like to share the article FIVE WAYS TO STOP EYE DAMAGE AT WORK. With so much time in front of our computers our eyes suffer from strain which can lead to other things like headaches, and poor posture. I hope you will take the time to read this short article and pick up a few pointers that will help reduce eye damage on the job. http://www.careerealism.com/stop-eye-damage-at-work/
