Chalisa started competitive dancing at 9 years old with hip hop before finding a passion in many other styles including ballet and contemporary. She has several awards & special honours for her choreography in both the US & Canada. She is a well rounded and creative dancer who's passion shines through in performance and unique choreography. NEW FACULTY MEMBER - ALICIA TYSKA: Alicia Tyska began dancing at the age of three and instantly fell in love with the art. She joined Legacy’s competitive team in 2012 at the age of 11. Alicia has been trained in several styles of dance including ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, and contemporary. She has a passion for every style individually and just cannot pick a favourite. Throughout her 15 years of dance, Alicia has achieved top placements and high scoring titles in solo and ...group routines in numerous competitions. She has also qualified for and attended several National finals occurring throughout North America. Alicia has been recognized individually on many occasions, obtaining special awards and scholarships, including the Sylvia Horn Memorial Scholarship, awarded to a well-accomplished dancer and choreographer entering post-secondary education. While studying at the University of Toronto this past year, Alicia auditioned for and was invited to continue her passion for dance with Silhouettes Dance Company. Alicia will continue her studies online at the University of Toronto this fall semester in Life Sciences and Human Biology. In doing so, we have exceeded the TBDHU's requirements to ensure your dancer is safe, comfortable, and did we mention, SAFE! We are fortunate enough to limit the interaction between the dancers, creating a safe socially distant experience for ev...eryone by having 5 separate dance spaces on 3 separate floors! As you will notice our competitive team schedule has been formulated to offer each group a HOME STUDIO and designated washroom facilities for consecutive uninterrupted days. When each competitive group has completed their weekly days at the studio, their designated areas will be thoroughly sanitized to prepare for the next group! Having 5 separate studios gives us the space and opportunity to continue to teach all of our groups including multiple kinder and novice classes. In between each of these classes, our sanitization team will be cleaning each studio to prepare for the next class. WHO'S EXCITED? #TeamLegacy

NEW FACULTY MEMBER - JILLIAN LAWLEY: Jill Lawley has been dancing since the age of 5 years old! For the past 12 years she has trained in various styles such as: ballet, jazz, lyrical, tap, hip hop and musical theatre. Although she loves every style of danced she has always felt her happiest making people laugh while doing musical theatre. She has completed several BATD exams in the styles ballet and jazz. She has competed in many competitions in Canada and the US whil...e receiving many awards for team performances. Jill is very excited to be back with the Legacy Team and to share her love and passion of dance to the next generation of dancers! #TeamLegacy See more

NEW FACULTY MEMBER - PAIGE DUNNE: Paige began dancing at the age of 10 and joined Legacy in 2014, when she was 12 years old. Paige has consistently trained in a number of styles such as ballet, pointe, jazz, and lyrical. She has also trained in other forms such as hip hop but fell in love with ballet as soon as she was introduced to it. Paige has competed in a number of in and out of town competitions with Legacy Dance Company, travelling to various destinations like Chicag...o, Minneapolis, St Louis and Duluth. Paige has been training to take classes on of her own for quiet some time, and has assisted many different classes of all ages and abilities. Paige will be attending Lakehead University this fall studying nursing. Paige is very excited to remain a part of the Legacy family and share her love of dance with others!

NEW GUEST ASSOCIATE TEACHER - HARMONY APPELL: Harmony was practically born in the studio, starting dance at the age of 2 and a half. For the past 20 years she has thoroughly enjoyed her time in the studio and on stage. Since the start of her young dance career and up until recently she has had much success. Harmony auditioned for and was successfully invited to attend the Royal Winnipeg Ballet school’s summer intensive program in 2008, the National Ballet of Canada’s one-mont...h summer program in 2009 and most recently the 3-year post-secondary Teacher Training Program at the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School in 2015. She also successfully auditioned for and performed in the Moscow Ballet Company’s production of Sleeping Beauty in 2010, and again the following year in their Swan Lake Performance. In 2007, Harmony received the RBC Silver Plate for her demi-pointe solo, the All Around Senior Dance Bowl for the highest overall combined marks in 2011 and the Sylvia Horn Memorial Scholarship for a promising student entering post-secondary education who has been extremely successful in her choreography as well as her own dancing in 2015 at the Lakehead Festival of Music and the Arts. Most recently, in 2016, she was awarded the Fort William Rotary Club Silver Tray. Harmony has trained in almost every style you can imagine including jazz, ballet, lyrical, contemporary, pointe, acro, hip hop, musical theatre and ballroom. She has taken classes with many well-known dancers and choreographers such as Shannon Mather, Blake McGrath, Willdabeast, Jenn Parsley, Rustin Matthews, Ade Obayomi, David Cox, Talia Favia, Jaci Royal, Mark Kanemura and many, many more. At various workshops locally and internationally, Harmony has won outstanding scholarships to locations all around the world including Paris, LA, Montreal and New York. Some of her most prestigious awards include top overall soloist, most potential, most outstanding and special awards like the best costume and emotional execution. Harmony has recently been titled Senior Miss Masquerade at the Masquerade Dance Competition in Duluth 2 years in a row. She has also received many exceptionally high marks and placements on a variety of different performances. Most recently, Harmony has been acknowledged for her outstanding jazz, ballet, and lyrical choreography, receiving numerous top choreography awards at competitions, including but not limited to, Dance Canada, Thunderstruck Canada, Masquerade, Dancefest, LFMA, and Celebration Talent. For many years, Harmony has assisted and taught a variety of classes at Dream Dance Company for dancers from the ages of 3 and up in jazz, ballet, and lyrical. She is looking forward to continue sharing her love and passion for dance with the Thunder Bay dance community as a guest teacher & freelancer while inspiring and encouraging her students to be the best that they can be

NEW FACULTY MEMBER - MIKAYLA SCERBA: Mikayla started dancing when she was 4 years old. Throughout her years of dancing, she experienced different styles of dance such as jazz, tap and ballet. To further her dance skills, she joined Le Stelle Alpine Italian Dancers in 2013 and has been dancing with this group ever since. In addition to dancing, she assisted and has been teaching both their beginner groups for the past 3 years. Mikayla enjoys working with younger dancers to pro...vide them with a child centred, age appropriate dance curriculum and to shape them into becoming the best dancers they can be. When not at the dance studio, Mikayla is an Registered Early Childhood Educator with the Thunder Bay Catholic District School Board. Through teaching in a classroom, Mikayla brings her child development skills to her dance classes to encourage participation and self discipline to the young dancers. Mikayla recently became a certified Zumba instructor. This will also allow Mikayla to use new techniques to incorporate into her dance classes. Mikayla is thrilled to be joining the team at Legacy this year and is looking forward to a fun and exciting dance season!

UPDATE After the notice from The City of Thunder Bay regarding its closing of recreation facilities, AND the chief medical officer of health urging non-essential businesses and organizations where 50 or more people could gather to close their doors immediately. Effective until further notice Legacy Dance Co has been advised to do the same (close effective immediately until further notice) as part of its response to the COVID-19 pandemic. We will continue to work with The ...City and the Thunder Bay District Health Unit and community partners to monitor developments and respond appropriately to COVID-19. As soon as we know when we can resume we will determine whether to extend the season and/or give credits. It may be a combination of both. Residents can do their part. We should all take immediate steps to protect our loved ones and those who are at high risk by using social distancing and proper hygiene. We must all stay home if we are sick or showing any symptoms. We are all in this unprecedented situation together. I will continue to update as information because available. Dear Legacy Dance Co Families: We are continuing to monitor the COVID-19 situation in Canada and the world. There continues to be no confirmed cases in Thunder Bay. We are in direct contact with the dance competitions both locally and in the US and will follow the guidelines as directed by the public health officials.
