Residents Association Fees are coming in May. Please note that Residents Association Fees are NOT the same as Community Association Memberships. The Residents Association is responsible for maintenance, repair and operations of recreational facilities like our ice rink and community garden. They also maintain parks, signage, lights, decorative lights, walkways, monuments, landscaping, ornamental features etc. They are also responsible for our beautiful light displays around C...hristmas. These fees are mandatory. For more information on the Residents Association and fees see: https://legacyresidents.ca/home-owners-association-fees/ The Community Association's goal is to build connections in the neighbourhood by facilitating recreation, cultural, social, athletic and educational activities. We also act as a community liaison in civic matters like planning and development. For more information about the Community Association and memberships see: https://calgarylegacy.ca

We have a goal to grow! The Calgary Legacy Community Association is responsible for the development of a community building on designated lands. We are SO excited to announce that we are getting the process started! BUT... this is a huge, multi-year process and we need YOUR help!... Our aim is to include the residents in the development of a plan for our community space, so we will be asking for your feedback periodically. We also need YOUR help fundraising. We have created a "Building our Legacy Fund," and proceeds donated go directly towards the community building and land development. We will have plenty of fundraisers coming up, but to start us off we have opened a fund at the Walden Bottle Depot. Next time you drop off your bottles, you can ask that the money go towards the Legacy Community Association! Every little bit helps! We are excited to grow with you!
Somehow it is already another Monday. But it's my favorite day for announcements! The Legacy Community Association has been cooking up a few things and we are excited to share!... Check back at 6pm to see our latest Community Association update! AND! Over the next few weeks we will also be sharing some of our upcoming COVID friendly events so keep an eye out for those!

Victory Garden Series: Fall Garden Clean-up When the leaves start to change colour, it’s time for your fall yard clean-up. By tackling small tasks during these warm autumn days, your garden will be well-prepared come springtime! 1- Begin by fertilizing your lawn and planting garlic and flower bulbs. Keep watering your plants and trees. ... 2- Take a good look at your garden design then divide or transplant your flowers and shrubs to sunnier or shadier areas as needed. 3- Trim shrubs and flowers (keep in mind that not all plants like to be shorn!). Pull, clip, and compost all rotted plant material, leaves, and weeds. 4- Dig store-bought or DIY kitchen-waste compost into your vegetable garden trenches; add mulch, stake trees, and wrap burlap around trunks where needed. 5- Clean, sharpen, and oil all garden tools, mowers, and winter shovels. Rinse off recycling bins and the BBQ; spray the windows, porches, and eaves of your house. Tie-down and cover all patio furniture. 6- Stock up on de-icer, snowblower gas, and sand. 7- As the chilly days approach in late October, give your trees and shrubs one last deep, slow watering before shutting off your water bibs -- inside and out -- and storing your hoses. (This is especially important for spruce trees and junipers as they don't remain dormant over winter, and, thus, will need watering during warm Chinooks.) For more tips, see Fall Clean-Up under Grow Your Own Victory Garden at calgarylegacy.ca/garden.

Victory Garden Series: Storing Your Garden Produce When it’s time to harvest your garden veggies and fruit, here are the 3 most popular methods: 1. Dry in an oven or dehydration machine and store in jars (easiest)... 2. Freeze (package raw or blanche/boil and seal in plastic bags) 3. Can or pickle - process jars in a water bath pot or pressure canner, depending on the type of veggie or fruit. (This one’s the most time intensive.) For more info, see Harvesting & Canning at calgarylegacy.ca/garden

Victory Garden Series: Composting Compost the organic material that gives your plants nutrients, should be added to your garden soil every year. You can ferment your own DIY compost in containers, trenches, or covered piles. A common ratio is one-part green (wet/nitrogen: kitchen scraps and grass but no meat or dairy) to two-parts brown (dry/carbons: leaves, sawdust, branches, pine needles, cardboard, etc.). If your compost is too wet, throw in some soil or more dry bro...wns. For details, watch the How to start a Compost Bin video under Tend Your Garden at calgarylegacy.ca/garden
