The most up to date information from the National Association. With regards to our clinic, the big change is our initial consultations will be done virtually, ideally through a video chat or phone call. From there we can make a treatment plan and have you come in (once screened properly) and get your work done.
With case numbers going up, all consultations for the time being will be done virtually through video chat. And work that has been started will be completed. Im watching things closely, and feel like being prepared to take a step back for now is the the right move.
Your new and improved mono block try-in is ready. You can even take it home for the weekend and show your family in person before we have the final Denture milled.
I can relate to this poor Kayaker. Sarahs been on Maternity leave since Mid March and doing the Lab work, and Clinical, and admin work has me feeling like Im drowning most days too. Sarah, HELP ME!... https://youtu.be/8oOPn1t0Wiw
So thankful to Eric Kukucka for introducing me to the teachings and ideologies of Dr Miguel Stanley and the Slow Dentistry network. An exemplary mindset Im happy to adopt and implement in my practice.
Happy Canada Day! Thank you to everyone for your continued understanding and patience during my return to practice. I feel so thankful that everyone has been so united here in Manitoba in our vigilance to keep ourselves and our communities healthy. Go Canada :)... Oh yeah, I'm closed today! But leave a message on Social Media or on the phone and I'll call you back ASAP
When planning immediate denture treatment, the issue has in the past been that we cant try the dentures in before they are completed. Thats no longer the case. Using modern face scanning and intraoral record taking we can simulate your dentures so you can see them before theyre done. We can even import your CBCT scans to coordinate implant treatment with your Dr or Maxillofacial Surgeon.... #bellus3d #3shape See more
Safe to say if you had plans for 2020, theyve been changed. As a clinician, it really highlighted to the need to address the layout of my current clinic in Brandon. I didnt intend to expand or renovate until 2022, but with the tenant next door vacating, I had to take the opportunity. Essentially doubling the size of by footprint, it will allow for more room for modern fully functional operatories, as well as dedicated spaces for my Digital Denture Computer Aided Designing ...and Manufacturing. Plan to work on the new area while working out of the old, then swapping over while the rest of the work is completed. *oh and forgive the pile of old chairs and equipment in the middle of the room. Ive been using this space as storage for a few months.
Is it comfortable. No its pretty hot. Is it excessive? Perhaps. But in my mind, there should be no compromise when it comes to safe treatment. Listening to @drmiguelstanley speak during our time we spent closed I felt the call to increase the level of infection control and increase time between patients to more effectively disinfect and sterilize the office. The next step is teaming with @greypearldesign to bring this office into the new century to align with this new way I want to approach my practice. #slowdentistry
Digital Scanning using 3Shape technology. Moving towards a fully digital workflow. For you the patient this means, fewer appointments, better accuracy resulting in fewer adjustments required, and the most up to date technology and materials to give you a superb fitting and functioning prosthesis.
Designing a case with @3shape Dental Designer using @ivoclarvivadent_int tooth libraries. Moving forward we will be able to do a digital smile design while youre here, and even virtually overlay a 3D face scan overtop so you can virtually try your new smile in. #digitaldentures #3shapedesign
Finishing work Id started before closing on March 15th. If youve had a case that youd been waiting to have finished, Im giving you Ivoclar injection processing at no extra charge as a way of saying Thank you for being understanding. #ivoclar #bpsdentures #ivobase #legacydenture
I have the last piece of equipment I need to start seeing a wider range of patients. A few changes to appointments: 1. Ideally Id like to have only you in the clinic. If absolutely necessary, you may bring one support person.... 2. I am no longer accepting walk-in patients of any kind. Appointments can be made by you or your referring Dentist/Surgeon on your behalf. No exceptions will be made. If youre travelling from far away then that is all the more reason to call ahead and schedule an appointment. 3. If you arent feeling well for any reason at all, or dont pass the temperature test at the door, no treatment will be given that day. 4. I will be calling in order of priority to get you in as soon as possible, but am only seeing 1 patient per working hour now. That means 7 patients a day would be the maximum. It may take some time for me to get through this list but I will get to you. 5. No shows will be charged a fee. If you cant make an appointment you need to leave a message no less than 24 hours ahead of time and no fee will be charged. I understand this isnt always possible due to illness or other circumstances and will have some leniency here.
Hi everyone, I have access to the gear I need to start seeing some select patients. What I can do is; consultations, impressions, bite registrations, delivery of dentures.... What I cant do yet; Adjustments, relines, rebases, repairs. (Aerosol generating procedures) Im really slowly getting back into things. Only seeing 2 patients a day, one am, one pm. I have a list of about 40 people waiting to get in for various appointments but Ill start working my way through that list to get in the people I can see now, and then once the rest of my equipment does show up, I can start seeing everyone else. Thanks for being patient, I know some of you are in dentures for the first time and not having support during the past 9 weeks has been difficult, but Im confident be the first week of June I should be able to start seeing any appointment type. For those looking to book in Virden, I dont know what that looks like yet, there have been big changes for dental clinics as well as denture clinics and I want to give Prairie Life Dental time to figure themselves out before asking for space again.
Little by little the equipment and PPE needed is showing up. I hope to see you all soon. I miss my patients
Happy Mothers Day!
Despite the Province announcing a mass re-opening of Dental and Health Clinics, I remain closed until further notice. I am sorry for any inconvenience this causes however I feel it is for the safety of you all, and myself. Dental Practitioners are THE HIGHEST RISK to contract respiratory viruses due to the environment we work in. ... I dont feel we should be the first to reopen, I feel we should have been the last. I will make an announcement on the Radio, in the Brandon Sun and on Facebook and Instagram when I am reopened. Thanks again for your patience. Sahba
Update regarding reopening May 4th (Spoiler alert, Im not)
I've been meaning to make another video to talk about the status of the clinic and a timeline for reopening. So I took out my camera and started recording and the quarantine hair is real. Plus i haven't trimmed my beard for a while so just imagine my voice coming from the picture below, its pretty accurate. Before closing, as I was one of the first to close, I went and donated a few thousand masks to providers who were intending to stay open for emergencies only. But even the... majority of them are also now closed. I say this to highlight I can't work because I have no masks. So in the video from March 14th I spoke of closing for one month maybe more and looking at the available data, and trends it looks like it will be a while longer still. How long is unknown but will vary on a number of factors. 1. It is promising to see that the curve has flattened, but that means that what we are doing currently (self isolation, social distancing) is KEEPING us at that level. There are still that many active cases. If we abandon this too early, that curve will creep back up and this will go on even longer. So until we see the curve not only flatten but begin to decline we can't really say we are in the clear. Plus projections of waves after this first one make things even more uncertain. 2. PPE shortages. I tried to restock my masks and gloves in late January/Early Fed. I was told then by my supplier that there was a back-order. This was about 45 days before the changes in Canada were begun. Keeping the flow of materials available for individuals still working in emergency cases is important and i don't want to siphon off that supply. 3.With regards to PPE, we also know that because of the nature of this virus, standard precautions used by everyone in our field aren't accepted as a high enough level of precautions to stop the spread. The virus travels via droplets. Droplets originate in the Respiratory system and then attach to saliva droplets which then transmit the disease. You can imagine the majority of what I do poses significant chances to spread those droplets. Adjustments, impressions, Bite registrations, all pose a risk of spread. 4. Also regarding PPE and asepsis (the state of being free from disease-causing micro-organisms (such as pathogenic bacteria, viruses, pathogenic fungi, and parasites)). We don't have our revised protocols yet, mostly because they don't have a clear idea of what is and isn't necessary yet. Those working right now are going to the highest levels available (Gown, mask, face shields etc) There will also likely be changes needed in the clinical settings themselves with regard to air exchanges in the rooms themselves. So I hope that gives you an idea of why I'm not seeing patients or even tentatively booking anything yet because there are too many variables and too many unknowns. That looks long enough for today.
Why we need to wash our hands the correct way! ( Did not make it myself, found it brilliant so I shared it, not sure who made it)
This is my family member, graduate of University of Saskatchewan, practicing dentistry in Shanghai for the past decade or more. Just returned to work after 6 weeks off. This is the level of protective measures required JUST to see emergency patients only. N95 Mask, face shield, full body covering. ... I hope this impresses upon you how serious this is.
Not this guy! But hopefully we will be back at it soon as we crest this wave of illness coming our way.
Speaking with a family member who is a dentist practicing in China about Covid-19
Closed as of March 15/2020, plan to return April 13/2020
Potentially cancelling all appointments beginning Monday because the majority of my patients are the highest risk category for Covid-19, and the nature of my work has an increased likelihood of spreading that disease. Ill update as soon as a decision has been made, Im reviewing some tentative guidelines that have been sent out in Europe for clinicians out there who have been dealing with this longer than we have in Canada.
Dr Thiessen @prairielifedental has been keeping me busy out in Virden these past few months! Another immediate complete upper and partial lower denture to be delivered this coming week. @ Virden, Manitoba
To all my Dental minded friends, what would you do here? This third molar keeps poking its head out and then regressing back in. Denture is often stable but when it is erupting suction is lost and the plate falls down. #wisdomtoothextraction #dentures #saveitorpullit @ Legacy Denture Clinic
Another day, another premium immediate denture using @ivoclarvivadent_int teeth. Extractions and Delivery to be done by Dr Thiessen @prairielifedental #immediatedentures #completedentures #dentures #oralrehabilitation #ivoclar #brandon #denturist #bdnmb #legacydenture @ Legacy Denture Clinic
