What is your favorite part of eating a meal with family? Is it... Fighting for your favorite chair? Laughing about the latest grand-child milestone (it didn't go IN that colour!)? Seeing something green in their teeth and pondering when would be the best, AND worst, time to tell them? Or is it simply the sharing of stories? If you agree people are 'Meant to #EatTogether', then first, re-watch this commercial spot... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aWTdX_WxzJA. Then read ...the rest of our #LegacyPlanning story... http://legacypuzzle.blogspot.ca//happy-meal-you-sank-my-ba And remember, it's okay to play with your food. #ClubHouseBattleShip
Caption: "What? No Parachute?" Every day you etch a little more into that collage we call life. Equally reflected in these images are your past and your potential. And, when your shutter clicks for the last time, what will the final caption say about you? Let's continue the conversation through this blog posting: http://legacypuzzle.blogspot.ca//caption-what-no-parachute
In the words of William Wordsworth, "To begin, begin." It's been a bit since I picked up a pen to write. Busy summer, office renovation, and general 'sandwich generation' stuff. But are those good reasons for not doing something you love to do? We all face obstacles... but what do we learn from them, and how do we get back on track? Ah, there's a good conversation starter.... Here's my first kick at getting back to writing creatively. http://legacypuzzle.blogspot.ca//hello-pen-my-old-friend.h
Reno Update: We're in! Just a 'splash of finishing touches left. :-) Can't wait for you to see it! Our space is in our same building, but a more open and bright, main floor unit. #LegacyPlanning #DustHasSettled #StillOpen... #SurvivedTheReno #ldnont See more
Five years ago this month, we lost an amazing, caring, loving member of our Legacy family. She was returning from catching a Brodway show that was the highlight of her trip. That show is now playing at the Grand Theatre. Do yourself a favour... catch this play just "ONCE", get up on stage, and share a toast to Maureen. #RIP. #WalkingOnMoonbeams #WeveStillGotTime... #Once #GrandTheatre #SprietStage See more
Reno Update. Packing day! Can't believe it fits in one room. All but the furniture that is. Next step ... is the actual move! Next stop ... is the ground floor. Yep, we're staying in the same building! :-) #LegacyPlanning #TheGroundFloor #SameBuilding.
Move Update: Starting to pack and I uncovered this piece of art. I love that every picture has a story just begging to be told. #StoryBehindThePicture #KidsArt #LegacyPlanning #StillOpen #LndOnt
Reno Update: There are many phases to a Reno... and many faces! Even in chaos, you can find a friendly face if you just keep your head up. #AlmostDone #StillOpen #LegacyPlanning
Reno Update: The day you find this on the floor and you start to question the electrician. Is this genius or gibberish? I'll let you know if the lights come on. :) #StillOpen #LegacyPlanning #KeepItSimple
Reno Update: A shadow of things to come? Be honest, do these stripes make me look thinner? ;-) Things are moving quickly now. #FirstWallsUp #LegacyPlanning #StillOpen
Reno Update: It looks like the sun is rising behind a mountain of insulation. We're happy to see our new office taking shape. #StillOpen #LegacyPlanning #ItchyStuff https://t.co/FBWnRxRZzR
Reno Update: Reached the crossroad. With the demo behind us, it's time to layout the new floor plan. #CleanSlate #LegacyPlanning #StillOpen
Office Reno: the hardest part (for me) is done... picking colours! Good thing Michele did all this! What can I say, I'm a numbers guy. ;-) #LegacyPlanning #StillOpen
Office Reno: The messy phase... You have to break a few eggs before you make a good omelette! #LegacyPlanning #StillOpen #Anticipation
Don't be alarmed. Office reno's are underway to serve you even better. We'll explain more as the work unfolds. #LegacyPlanning #StillOpen
It's weird what you remember after someone has passed. Memories can haunt us or the can help us. It's our choice. Here's my latest blog (it's good to be back writing again) on Memories and a few I will cherish forever. http://legacypuzzle.blogspot.ca/2017/08/memories.html ** My sincere thanks go to you and all those who supported my family during this difficult year. ... #LegacyLetter
What a perfect(?) weekend. Sun! Family! Canada's 150th! The perfect roasted marshmallow! And what a perfect time to reflect on... why we put so much emphasis on perfection? The map to perfection is easy to read: 'you can't get there from here.' Then how does this affect our actions, our planning, and our attitudes? Let's continue the conversation at: http://legacypuzzle.blogspot.ca//the-pursuit-of-perfection
This month, we honored the 10th recipient of our Mark Pincombe Legacy Award. But who was Mark? I won't be surprised if you likely already know him! Let's continue the conversation at: http://legacypuzzle.blogspot.ca/2017/06/marks-legacy.html
Happy New Year... In the year that was, I turned the corner! I'm now officially over the hill... half way home... playing the back nine. What ever way you look at it, five decades seem to have passed by quickly. What have I learned in that time? Well, plenty... but today I'm focusing on the lesson of keeping things simple.... http://legacypuzzle.blogspot.ca/2017/01/turning-corner.html
We were humbled today by a visit from Joe and Marie of the Push for Change Foundation. (http://www.thepushforchange.com/ ). Systems and support are key to everyone having the chance to succeed. Without these systems and the support of others, we ALL could be only a couple of "events" away from being homeless. Joe's passion and purpose is to give back, and to shore up the systems available to help youth to better manage those events! With all the funding provide for emergen...cy care and response, it is refreshing to see someone focusing on early prevention. Thank-you Joe and Marie. You've making a impact on some many lives... including ours!
Here are 3 options that cover every decision you face. Bold statement? Sure, but you may be surprised by my conclusions. Let's start a conversation about this. http://legacypuzzle.blogspot.ca//a-conversation-about-choi
Glad to see all the support for this amazing organization! Good curling.
Like Financial Planning, life is a process of moving forward, gaining experience and moving forward again. But some moves are more difficult than others, especially when it involves our children. Every Now and Then, I think about this. How about you? http://legacypuzzle.blogspot.ca//08/every-now-and-then.html
Walking tall, with Pride Fun day, proud day in London Where will the conversation go from here? Forward please. http://legacypuzzle.blogspot.ca//walking-tall-with-pride.h
At my age (am I allowed to use that term now?) and with my maturing (?) tastes, finding the 'right' radio station can be a challenge. Among the usual collection of soft rock, pop, and country, I've always had a saved setting for CBC Radio 1 (The Vinyl Cafe 'rocks'). But today, I found a new addition to my lineup and it screams OLD GUY! The changes announced to CPP this week, scream something else. Here's my take on CBC and CPP. http://legacypuzzle.blogspot.ca//cbc-to-cpp-what-are-your-
Moving Day! A day when Parents arrive and are astonishment by their child's lack of packing and bewildered by the empties piled in the garage. :-) Seeing the local exodus last Saturday, got me thinking about graduation and then retirement. What courses could we take to prepare for retirement? 101 - financial fundamentals 201 - become debt-free 303a - Oops I lost my Job ... 303b - Dang, I'm Divorced 401 - retirement realities See our blog for the full story and how we can help. http://legacypuzzle.blogspot.ca/2016/05/moving-day.html See more
Dr Seuss used simple words (most of the time) but things still came out complicated (and often silly). Hmmm,,, sounds just like a few Economists I follow. :-) But how would the Dr. explain volatility in today's investment markets? Maybe this Horton quote? Let's see if we can do better...
Oh how I love a good story. I love telling a story as much as I love hearing a story. But the message I get from a story may be different from the message you receive. Why is that? The answers can be found from the Cheshire Cat... "It depends."
The world, and the rules, have changed so much. In recent days, bullying has again escalated to bombing and the toll on innocent life has compounded. So how are we to keep our children safe? When I think back to my childhood, the golden rule was "be home before the streetlights are on". But what will be the golden rule for our children and global group of millennials?
Ever try to forget something and hope it wouldnt surface again? Maybe just bending a rule or cheating a diet or. From time to time, we all have moments we regret. But could you step forward when presented with a real defining moment in life? What if it looked impossible or even life-threatening? Read on... lest we regret.
When presented with the chance to give back to a club who has done so much for my family... in a blink of an eye I responded, yes! You see, my family has curled at the ilderton curling club for over 15 years and there is even a bonspiel named after my mom. They call this a "sponsorship ad", and I'm happy it turned out so well, but truly I view this as a donation. One that will allow the rink to continue to bring joy and community to so many. ... Still, nice to see your name in rings once in a life time. ;-)
"In the "mist" of pneumonia, my mind was fairly foggy and at times I was unable to articulate a complete thought." That memory makes me wonder how our memory and our minds will change as we age. Are you concerned about a loved ones memory? Has YOUR memory declined more than an appropriate amount for your age? Just what is APPROPRIATE? Is there a safe, free and private test we can take to answer these questions? If you are 50 or older, you will want to read this weeks posting on "the trip home".
Sometimes it feels like we prepare more for a trip down the highway (GPS, snacks, locations for a pee-break), than we prepare for getting older. I'm not sure when your next vacation will be, but I can guarantee we all are getting older... hmm... maybe we should do more to be prepared!?!? The future you would greatly appreciate your efforts today. Here's a place to start... The Trip Home - entry #4 - Help the Future You!
This week, lets take a lighter view of aging while covering the serious topic of 'being health conscience'. Every things from the old bait-and-switch to getting more "iron" in your diet. I think you'll get a chuckle form this weeks entry in the series on THAT trip home.
Have you ever asked someone, "Can I get you anything?" Often, guilt is found in that pregnant pause after you offer assistance yet secretly hope the answer will be 'no thanks'. The "Caregiver" is not an easy subject... but let's give it a shot shall we, and continue our series "The Trip Home".
This series opened with the statement "a trip home from vacation can be a grind". But this series will still cover a lot of ground including getting stuck on "Mount-Mother-of-Mercy". There's only one way to get out of trouble like that... "Ask for Help!" I hope you enjoy this latest entry. Come back again next Friday as this lighthearted summer series continues. :-)
The Trip Home - series starter Last spring I came down with pneumonia (you know it's not good when it's something you can't spell). While my treatment was simple (antibiotics and rest), the journey was enlightening and frankly, pretty dang funny. :-) I even learned about life in the final decade of life. That's right, I practiced getting old. As I wouldn't recommend trying this at home, I thought I'd share with you my findings and the laughter through a series of short b...log entries. Join me will you... and return each Friday for the next entry in the series "The Trip Home" http://legacypuzzle.blogspot.ca//the-trip-home-series-star
