Wishing my dear friend, Instructor Kevin Lamour, a VERY happy and healthy birthday. I hope you have a fantastic day my friend.

Legion Hap Ki Do 19.12.2021

Ontario just got hit with another lockdown, just as we were so excited to start our Winter session. I say: "Enough bad news", and I want to start 2022 with some GOOD news. So, in order to thank all of the new students who joined our club and paid their dues in good faith, HERE IS SOME GOOD NEWS. The Legion Hapkido Club will give you FREE of charge a PAID IN FULL Spring Session ON TOP of the Winter session you paid for.... So, EVERY NEW STUDENT WHO PAYS THEIR WINTER SESSION DUES will have their NEXT session FREE OF CHARGE. Because some new students could not make tonight's class, I will extend this offer to January 15th, 2022. When we had our last shut down (is it EVER GOING TO END?), I did something similar for our old students, so they are fully aware that the Legion Hapkido school will ALWAYS give you full value for the lessons you paid for. THIS year, I thought it would be nice to give our members the good news NOW, so the bad news of the latest lockdown is a bit easier to swallow. Training: Despite our latest lockdown (anyone remember the "we will flatten the curve in two weeks" promise we were given two years ago?"), WE WILL offer "outdoor" classes on Tuesdays from 6-7 for ALL levels. YES, we will keep the number of students down to the mandated numbers in each class for your safety, but we will make SURE that EVERY student has an opportunity to train under supervision at least once a week. Other activities: Please make sure to visit our Legion Hapkido Facebook group (the private one we have for students only), so you can keep informed about our EXTRA activities. To ease the burden on the PARENTS of our students, our AWESOME Instructors have agreed to offer activities such as sledding down Finn Hill, skating at a local rink, or hiking one of the Sault's awesome Nature Trails. Again, we will keep participation down to mandate levels, but WE think it is essential for our young people to have supervised activities that are fun. NO "Karate Kid" should be stuck at home playing nintendo... WE are martial artists, and we MAKE GOOD THINGS HAPPEN. Keep an eye on our private student Facebook group, so YOUR child will have some fun AND some training. BTW. the WE make a promise, it is NOT like the empty promises politicians make... you can take OUR Promises to the bank!

The Legion Hap Ki Do Club will accept new registrations on January 4th from 5:30 - 7:30 pm at the Legion Hall on great Northern Road. This is a photo taken from a "Facebook memory" from three years ago, and the dates have changed; however, we STILL are 100% nonprofit club, dedicated to serve the citizens of Sault Ste. Marie, and our goal STILL is to provide an affordable martial arts program for children age 8 and up, as well as adults and seniors. Our family rates are ...simply awesome! Come join us, and bring your family, friends, and coworkers along for a great workout and some personal protection lessons. We have a great group of talented instructors, and we look forward to help you achieve your goals. If you live in the Sault, please share this post, so we can reach more people. We aim to make a difference, and you can help us do that by sharing this post. Wishing everyone a very happy and healthy new year.

Our Winter session begins on Tuesday, January 4th, and we have room for three students. Our smartial arts chool follows all Covid regulations, and our Instructors are all fully vaccinated. To remain in good health, it is essential that people remain physically active and mentally challenged, and a good martial arts program provides all of that and MUCH more. Although our rates are slightly higher than they were two years ago, we are still THE most affordable school in our ...area. Where else can an entire family train four months for less than a cup of coffee per session. Send me a message at [email protected] to register for our Winter program. You owe it to yourself and your family.

For my US friends.

Legion Hap Ki Do 13.11.2021

Hello everyone. This message is for my friends and students who wanted to purchase my book. I was told by the printers that they would ship the book directly to you, and I ran a test to see how long it would take to be delivered. The main reason I had it sent to me was to make absolutely sure that the quality was the same as my first order, before sending any copies from the printer directly to you. I got my copy today, and the book checked out fine. Seems that delivery... time is around two weeks from the date the order was placed. If anyone is still interested, please e-mail me at [email protected]. Thank you all for your interest. It is much appreciated. Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas, and a Happy, and Healthy New Year.

Memories from 3 years ago. Now, it is not only drugs we need to combat, but also the mental and physical stresses Covid have put on us. The Legion Hapkido martial arts school is ready. and we encourage YOU to join us. We consistently have done MORE than required from the AHU and the Government, because self-defence is at the core of our martial arts program. Self defence begins with your health.... Because some students failed to register by our deadline, we now have three openings in our 6-7 pm program, and we also have three openings in our 7-8 pm program. These places will go on a first come basis. < years ago Rudy W. Timmerman December 19, 2018 a <> This was the headline and the story of the television documentary that prompted me to launch the, totally nonprofit, Legion martial arts club. Of course, there was no way I could do this without the help of the KJMS black belt volunteers and branch 25 of the Royal Canadian Legion. We may be down, but we are not out... Not while we CAN make a difference. Wishing all my Family, friends, and their families, a very Merry Christmas, and the healthy and happy New Year! Rudy W. Timmerman, Coach

Legion Hap Ki Do 29.09.2021

Greetings everyone. I would like to thank the Instructors and students of the Legion Hapkido school for their hard work and their loyalty for the past year. I wish you all a very Merry Christmas, and a happy, healthy, and safe New Year. I look forward to working with all of you in 2022, and I hope to see you all "on the mats" very soon. Last night, the Legion Hapkido School had its last class for the year, and we always end our Fall session with our annual Christmas party ...and Promotion ceremony. Alas, due to Covid restrictions, and our desire to keep our students safe, we had to cancel the Christmas Dinner we usually enjoy. Instead, our Instructors did their best to have a nice gathering of test candidates, and we provided them with a nice Pizza party in the Legion bar. The branch, as always, did their best to accommodate us, and they provided our team with a reserved area. Thank you Legion, branch 25. At the last class, we also close preferred registration for our returning students, and we do this for a very good reason. First, we need to know how many students are returning, and second students need to learn that time management and "taking care of business" is an essential component of life skills that need to be learned. Students who have NOT renewed their membership by the deadline, now stand to lose their place on our team roster. As soon as I sort out who is coming back (today or tomorrow(, I will open up our class roster to NEW students. Since we operate on a First come basis, old students WILL lose their spot on the team IF a new student registers first. Since everyone KNOWS when our sessions end, NOT renewing your membership is either due to lack of caring OR your priority lies elsewhere. Either way, you'll lose your spot if we are not important enough to renew.

Welcome Amanda and Gavin Moore, thanks for joining the Legion Hapkido Team. We look forward to training with you come January.

Legion Hap Ki Do 06.09.2021

Greetings everyone. The last spot for our beginners Winter program was just taken, and the class is now full. Thank you to all who expressed an interest. We truly appreciate your support. We MAY have some openings come December 16th, when the deadline for present students to renew will close. If everyone returns, that class is also full. Attention Black Belts. We are looking for a few more Black Belts who wish to join our Black Belt class on Thursdays from 7-8:30... Our goal is to recruit some adult students who are interested in getting back into shape and have fun doing some hard workouts. This would be an ideal class for serious students who don't mind a good sweat and work the Kuk Sool Hapkido syllabus. Presently, some of our black belts are prepping for our annual International test to be held August 19-21st, 2022. Come join us.

Legion Hap Ki Do 19.08.2021

Welcome Adam France, thanks for joining our team. We look forward to training together. Adam will join our adult class, so we still have a spot available for our children's class. The opportunity to join ends on December 16th, so we can form new classes for our Winter session. Register TODAY!

Unfortunately, due to recent Covid guidelines, we are unable to open on Monday, January 4th, as expected. We will resume classes as soon as these guidelines allow us to. In the meantime, we encourage our students to make use of our virtual classes. Please check our Facebook group for details. We have ONE opening left in our beginners class, and you can reserve your place by contacting Grandmaster Rudy Timmerman at [email protected]

This would be a great first "road trip" for our group. The Kobudo event in Ottawa is usually held in the Fall, so hopefully things will be back to normal again. I think you would all enjoy visiting Ottawa, and the event is a first class martial art weekend that has something for everyone. There is a video link in the article below. Click on it to see Hanshi Alain perform a demo.

Some local martial arts history: If you like this, and our other posts, please LIKE our page. We will continue to bring you old stories like this AND News. After running clubs for my Instructors for quite some time, I finally opened my own school on April 1st, 1973. It was an old building I renovated, located by the underpass on Wellington Street West. Ten of my friends paid $30.00 each in dues, giving me a whopping $300.00 operating funds to begin with. ...Continue reading

There is a new article, mostly about my early years, in the Totally Tae Kwon Do magazine. As is common in articles, there are a few minor errors in it... the main one being that the author of the article, CM Thomas Gordon, mixed up my birth country The Netherlands with Norway. So, if you happen to read it and get to that part, just read Holland, instead of Norway LOL The main reason why martial arts practitioners get articles into magazines is simple. It is not about bra...gging, but it is more about having prospective students learn a bit more about who they are training with. 90% or more practitioners never get an article into magazines, and that is because these magazines look for Movers and Shakers in the martial arts world. They are in the business of selling magazines, so they write about people others want to read about. I've been fortunate enough to have been featured on several front covers, had many stories published, and I have also written stories that were published. I thank Chief Master Gordon writing for this unique article. I never knew he even remembered me talking about those times we would rather forget.

Today, we had an AWESOME work bee at the Legion. We had a long day, and it was not an easy day; however, thanks to the help of Steve KJN, and HSNs Liam and Alan Watson, and Jake Roy, we got done what I had planned to GET done. To give you an idea what we did. Got started at 11:00 am this morning, and Alan and his son came to my house to pick up tools and the face frame I had made at home. Then we met up with Steve KJN and Jake HSN to tackle several jobs. The most diffic...ult job was to repair a very flimsy home made set of cupboards that were hanging from the ceiling, and they were sagging to the point the thing was about to come down. WE carefully jacked it up, and the new, beefier, face frame looks to be working well. Now I have to make three new doors, and do some more trimming to complete the job. It WILL have to wait, because my back is toast. I shared the photos Steve KJN took with the President of the Legion, and she liked the photo of Alan and his Son Liam Watson so much that she wants to publish it in the Legion Distpatch. It will be a great memento for Alan and his son. WTG Liam, not many young people your age are willing to spend more than eight hours working with a bunch of grumpy old men. You, your dad, and the rest of the team did a great job, and we are all VERY proud of you. What you all did today was a GREAT show of good citizenship by volunteering for the Legion. We really ARE a different martial arts club. Today, our training was all about learning to function as a team, doing new and very different things, learning life skills and good citizenship. Today, young men and children learned carpentry skills, safe tool handling, and how to plan a productive day. These are the kind of life skills that will help you save $$$ when you own your own home and things break down.
