Love Maggie’s Playground and love that it’s accessible!
This Thursday April 15th at 6:30 is the opening reception of the South Shore Elementary School Art Exhibit! It runs until April 23. Very proud to say that my daughter had her picture chosen to be part of the exhibit :)
Congratulations Tom!

Picture perfect evening at United Communities Marine Park.
All we can say is WOW!!!! What an incredible uptake on our very first Easter Rock Hunt across the Municipality of the District of Lunenburg - MODL! We were blo...wn away with the participation from all ages and we THANK YOU for getting out, getting active, and exploring our many amazing parks, trails and open spaces. With over 300 entries, below are the winners of our random prize draws! If you see any of our rocks in your exploration now, you are welcome to keep them :)
Tick season! In fact... it’s always tick season. Make sure you’re doing your checks. We’ve already had to deal with a tick bite this year.
Got out for a lovely walk with Councilor Michelle Greek at Miller Point Peace Park... scoping out those Easter egg rocks. Encountered a few other hunters too!
Public Information Session being held on April 1st at 6:30 - no joke!
Widespread power outage for district one. Power expected back by 10:15. I’m guessing the thunder and lightning has something to do with it. http://outagemap.nspower.ca/external/default.html
Check out the updated burn restrictions.
I spent a wonderful windy morning at Rissers Beach with Scott and Sue, talking about accessibility to our public and recreational spaces and how we can improve access. Here’s a challenge: go about your day looking at your surroundings through the lens of accessibility. What is off limits to you? What *seems* accessible... until you notice that lip or stair? I’m pleased that MODL has accessibility listed in its strategic priorities and I look forward to working on this challenge.
VOTING STARTS TODAY!

I stand for climate justice and social justice. I support candidates who stand for climate and social justice.
The 2020 Provincial Volunteer Awards are being live streamed right now! We have so many amazing volunteers to celebrate in MODL and across Nova Scotia. My mother is one of them! She received a volunteer award for her work with Talking Trees. https://www.facebook.com/events/636799720598300
On Saturday I attended the Citizens for Public Transit AGM, and listened to a very interesting presentation by Prof. Frank Palermo. You can find a video on their Facebook page, as well as their feasibility study.
Had a great morning with my daughter at Miller Point Peace Park taking part in the Fairy Lantern program put on by MODL Recreation. What a great weekend to get out with the family and enjoy everything our area has to offer!
A great community event in a great community hall.
Mark your calendars!
We got fish chowder take out from the Vogler’s Cove Community Hall and had some fun at Maggie’s Playground- such a great asset for our community, all run by committed volunteers.
Hi friends! Looks like we have some weather coming our way. Make sure you're prepared and plan ahead.
So sorry to hear of the passing of Laurence Mawhinney. He was a true gentleman.
I spent yesterday afternoon biking around Broad Cove and connecting with voters. A beautiful day! Thank you to Phyllis for making introductions.
Check out my website! Www.leithahaysom.ca While it has been set up as a campaign website (with info about voting and how to ensure you’re on the voters list!) it will transition into a councilor website. Thanks to the extremely talented Andrea for putting this together!
