I’m seeing an astounding increase in the number of hostile, offensive and hurtful comments on social media. I’m surprised and saddened by the fact that many of these comments are directed at completely innocent, often meant to be entertaining and funny posts. People are making negative comments purely out of a desire to hurt a stranger for absolutely no reason!!! I’m certain many of these trolls have sadistic personality traits that I won’t try to change through this post, ...but I’m hoping to influence those that are commenting due to their underlying stressors. I understand we have all been through stressful times over the last couple years but please let’s all take the time to focus on self-healing to become happier and in turn kinder to ourselves and others. Mindful Exercise Before the pandemic I used to go to the gym to exercise. My least favourite part was doing cardio. I used to listen to podcasts or watch a show to help me pass the time on the cardio machine. For me doing that exercise mindfully made it even more painful. I have come to realize that when you enjoy an exercise you are more likely to be mindful doing it. My most favourite exercise is dancing. I’m currently on vacation and really enjoying dancing in the water. I am now spending long spans of time mindfully, just enjoying the music, water and nature. When you are used to working all the time, it can be hard to relax without feeling guilty, but this activity has helped me achieve that relaxation I really needed. Mindfulness Tip #4 Next time you feel upset or annoyed, instead of going over the upsetting issue several times in your head, analyzing and thinking about how you could have done things differently, try to just let go of those thoughts. Focus on the present, your routines or responsibilities or go for an enjoyable activity and do not allow the thoughts to invade your head.
