I quit. 4 weeks ago, as I was laying in a trench in the mud, in thick fire retardant coveralls and Dunlop rubber boots, in 30C, grinding paint off a fire hydrant with a drill, I finally made up my mind. I've had enough. I have often wondered why I ever took engineering to begin with, I've never enjoyed my job, and I could hardly bear the thought of trying to wake up to this job for even one more day.... So finally I have said, I'm done. And I'm leaping head first into photography full time!!! Say WHATT!?!? I am slightly terrified , but soooooo stoked to be able to put my time, energy and focus into this one thing that I get so so exhilarated about! I cannot wait to be able to bring you an upleveled service, be able to plan ahead, have my own schedule, and a BAJILLION other things. And wow, what a plethora of thoughts that ran through my head as I left the office for the last time this afternoon with my termination letter in hand. There is a ton of work ahead, a ton of failures, and a ton of wins. THANK YOU ALL for supporting me!! There is so much more goodness coming and I'm stoked for it all!

Look what arrived today!!! You should have smelled the leather when I took this beauty out of the box. Ah, so so beautiful! This custom leather album looks absolutely gorgeous with this farming/ranching family. The key element of this one is the font deboss is on the binding! This is a nice effect if you are going to keep your album on a shelf somewhere. You can also do 2 debosses, one on the front and one on the binding. Totally up to you!

There was a tornado warning. A torrential downpour/hurricane (not quite, but almost ). I was supposed to do their session at 7pm. I left the house just after 5:30pm and got one block and had to pull over. The roads were literally like rivers.... (I may have covered a pedestrian with water by accident, oops ). :, . We got the most insanely gorgeous "post-storm" light you could possibly imagine. A golden tinge to the water. Dark clouds in the background. Glowy sky. Then, just as we were about to leave, that mist. We all saw the mist. And we had to have it. So we hurried over in that direction and got some sweet misty shots to end the session. Love working with clients like these!! .

You cant get much cuter than this! Somehow we managed to outsmart the weather. Right as we started the session, the sun was horribly bright, right at noon. 5 min later, it clouded over and we got some VERY dramatic clouds. Amazing. The MINUTE we started driving back home from the session, it started raining. ... We went back out a couple hours later to move the horses and it was beautiful. As soon as we got back home from moving horses, it started raining. Were so good ;)

Are you a mom trying to plan a family session? Here are a few tips for in home family photos. Add these few easy things to your list to make everything go smoothly once your photographer arrives: Clean up - just tidy a little bit, get rid of clutter, collect toys to one area. (You don't have to do a deep clean, just make it look tidy :) )... Try to coordinate outfits - I am 100% here to help you. Most of my clients ask for guidance with this and I'm absolutely here for it! Wash the kids noses and faces - sometimes there is dried food or other things around their lips and nose (because they're kids, after all!) Natural light - this is KEY to getting warm, glowy portraits. Ensure your blinds are open and the room you're in has windows! Have a couch or bed prepared - that is literally all you need. Every single photo from this session was taken in the same spot. One space is plenty! Take elastics off your wrist. Just do. Leave your favorite emoji in the comments if this makes family photos sound easy See more

Here are a few more things about albums! 1. The swatches shown here are only a fraction of the colour and material options you have! There are leather, cloth, and velvet options. 2. The stack of albums shows you the difference in size between a 12x12, 10x10, and 6x6. There are square, vertical, and horizontal designs to choose from for sizes! ... Find out more about albums on my website lenajenisephotography.com/albums! If you have photos laying around from your wedding that you haven't done anything with yet, I can just do a design or design and order for you as well!! Which one of these is your favorite?

I cannot put into words (or images) how beautiful these custom heirloom albums are. I received this one in for my clients whose wedding I photographed in March. Did you know? If you book ANY session with me, you WILL receive an album. They are included in all of my packages, because I NEED my clients to have one. They are my favorite way to preserve images and memories from your wedding or portrait session. ... A few details on this specific messenger style: - Genuine leather - Custom blind deboss on the front flap - Perfect leather strap to wrap it up - Thick, durable pages, designed to last a lifetime I can't wait to design your album for you :)

You know how the weather on any given day doesnt necessarily go as planned? Ya, that happened. We were going to do a hike, get some sweet mountain views, and as I was driving through Calgary and out to Kananaskis Country, the snow was just pouring (pouring? ) down. I arrived at our location and it was a complete whiteout. We decided not to hike, but just hung around on the lake for a few hours. Nothing like adapting to the weather at its finest ... We almost got caught on top of a mountain in a thunderstorm. A group of about 10 were hiking in Kananaskis. The first portion of the hike was fairly flat, but the second part up to the summit was steep and grueling. It was mostly sunny and cloudy. ...until we were not far from the summit.... We could see mountain ranges in the distance rapidly being engulfed in low hanging dark clouds. We heard thunder. But 4 of us were SO CLOSE to the summit. LIKE SO CLOSE. So we started running (as much as you can run straight up a mountain in scree and with wind almost whipping you off the mountain ). We were climbing up the very last portion when it started to rain. Pour actually. The wind was so powerful the rain was jetting straight sideways and felt like needles. We were completely soaked in seconds. There was thunder. I saw lightning and that was it. I was terrified. Another from our party further down was yelling at us to come down. I started running/sliding down. I was frozen, soaked, and my legs felt numb (this was August). We got a little bit more shelter but the storm had rushed in so fast we hardly had time to react. We had several kilometers to hike back. We found the rest of our hikers and stopped to take a little break in a more sheltered area. I couldn't believe what happened next.. The clouds parted, out came the sun, and in minutes there was not a cloud in sight. Lesson: Hiking is amazing, but the weather up in the mountains can change with hardly a second's notice. Be prepared. PS. The news the next day told of 2 hikers who had be struck by lighting in the same area we had been End of Story See more
