Yesterday MP Jaime Battiste and I met with three ministers in my Gov’t to tell them what I had seen and heard first-hand of that angry mob attacking FN fishers and their property on the wharf in Digby. I spoke to them for an hour about that and historic systemic racism in NS and our need to change and to uphold the Marshall Decision and come to an agreement with the Mi’kmaq about the definition of moderate livelihood and their Fishing Rights which was upheld in the Supreme ...Court of Canada. The Prime Minister and Fisheries Minister made public statements soon after that. I’m glad that both I and my colleague Jaime Battiste are in a position as NS Liberal MPs to bring the concerns of the First Nations people of NS directly to Gov’t. It makes a difference.

PUGWASH, N.S. Nova Scotians looking for an outdoor activity over the Thanksgiving long weekend might consider a day trip to the Northumberland Shore to explore the Pugwash Estuary Nature Reserve. OTTAWA: Yesterday Prime Minister Trudeau announced an additional investment of $100 million under the Emergency Food Security Fund. This investment will help improve access to food and increase food supply for vulnerable Canadians across the country facing the impacts of the global COVID-19 pandemic,. The Government of Canada will provide this funding to national and regional organizations, who will then support food banks and local food organizations across Canada in order t...o help reach people experiencing food insecurity. As we enter a critical point in the pandemic, food banks, local food organizations, and Indigenous groups will be able to use this funding to ensure vulnerable communities continue to have access to safe, healthy, and culturally diverse food. The funding will be used to purchase and distribute food and other necessities in order to meet the urgent needs of Canadians. The funds will also be used to hire workers where volunteers are unavailable and buy personal protective equipment to help keep workers, volunteers, and visitors at food banks and local food organizations safe. Gaps in previous funding and areas of specific need are currently being assessed. We will share information regarding funding distribution in the coming weeks.

Afterwards I texted Maia Zann-Roland a copy of the rec...ording and after she watched it she texted back, that’s so cool and sweet!! It’s been just two weeks since her surgery but the stitches were taken out yesterday. Thank you #IWK!!! Here’s the text of my statement: A CHAMPION is someone who fights on, in spite of the unexpected challenges Life throws at them - and never gives up. A CHAMPION: is a someone - a young gymnast - who has the courage to face leg amputation with grace, grit and give ‘er - since, like Terry Fox before her, the osteosarcoma she once battled suddenly returned. A CHAMP is #MaiaTheMighty from Truro, Nova Scotia CHAMP also stands for Child Amputees. My niece Maia Zann-Roland is a rockstar. Just 16, she’s the bravest person I know. Thank you to the surgeons and staff at the IWK Children’s Hospital in Halifax. Thanks to Coach Kim, the Truro Spartans, and gymnastic teams across Canada for the support they’ve shown our champ. Thanks as well to Maia’s many friends and our incredible community for your love & support. Just two weeks after surgery Maia looks forward to rockin’ her ‘bionic’ leg.
