Congratulations to SpaceX's Crew-1 for a successful launch and docking to the International Space Station! This marks the first official mission to space by private astronauts. Not a test this time, let’s get to work!

Hello everyone! We have some more good news. We at the LAS are excited to announce that we will now be offering an option for online private bookings! As some of you may know we usually offer private scheduled events for individuals or groups at the observatory that entail a slideshow of the wonders of the Universe, and a night sky tour if the weather allows. Of course, this year has proven difficult to work with and we decided to suspend in-person events for now. However we ...are now piloting an online version of our private booking. It will be offered for the basic rate advertised on our website, and will be on Google Hangouts. It will include the same slideshow as well as an online sky tour with a universe simulation program. The benefits of doing it online are: maximum physical distancing and freedom from Southern Alberta weather. Two possible drawbacks are: your home internet connection and a requirement to have a gmail account to use the service. If you'd like to learn more or schedule an online booking with us, please send us a message or email!

Why do most cultures have a seven day week?? This video is a great mashup of astronomy and ancient history... with just a touch of quarantine cabin fever. https://youtu.be/vpRd52dXHlQ

What are your favorite constellations? Also, does anyone have a favorite obscure constellation people don't usually know about?

Good news everyone, our gas planets have finally come in for our city Solar System Project! We're getting them polished at the moment, but we'll try and get a picture of them all up here as soon as possible. Jupiter is enormous, like a steel yoga ball! Hoping to break ground first or second quarter next year. Here's hoping.
