Observations from an Invisalign Dentist I've been doing exclusively Invisalign aligners for about 4 years now and I have been doing braces since 1995 and there is one thing that I have noticed recently that I wanted to bring to your attention that I hadn't noticed before with my orthodontic patients. THEY DON'T SMILE MORE ONCE THEIR TEETH HAVE BEEN STRAIGHTENED! I thought about this for about a week and I think I have the reason why. Invisalign offers better choices for adul...ts to straighten their teeth, and there are more adults than children in my practice actively doing Invisalign. Having crooked or unsightly teeth for many years and then in a matter of less than two years having aligned teeth isn't enough to break the habit of the patient unconsciously protecting their smile. Habits die hard, as they say. When video taping patient testimonials, patients will often say in their comments, I love my smile, but almost always smile with closed lips. THAT is the time to flash a BIG smile and I find they have to be told to show their teeth. It's an interesting observation that I am now sharing with all my patients to break them of their bad habit.
