The concern with corn today Corn needs no introduction but before we start most people believe it is a vegetable, nothing could be further from the truth! It is actually a food grain! Available everywhere today, corn was first grown in Central America and Mexico. Now it is readily produced all over world. From its modest start in South America the modern world has replicated, genetically modified and completely commercialized it to the point that only 1 per cent of the orig...inal grain is remaining. If you were aware it has been genetically modified to a tune of 99 % , would you consume it? Further research has also identified the following concerns with corn: Not Good For Diabetics: Corn adversely affects people suffering from diabetes as it increases the blood sugar level in the body. Corn has a high carbohydrate content, which leads to the increase in blood sugar levels. So people suffering from diabetes should not consume corn in large quantities. 2. Causes Bloating And Flatulence: Corn contains a high percentage of starch. When you consume corn, it breaks down in the large intestine and produces a lot of gas and odour. Sitting beside a person consuming corn may not be safe for air quality or those sensitive to smell. 3. Causes Indigestion And Stomach Upset: Corn is a good source of fibre which helps in flushing out bad toxins from the body. But an overdose of these fibres can be bad for your stomach. Eating large portions of cereals, breads and flours made up of corn can lead to indigestion and stomach cramps! 4. Causes Intestinal Irritation And Diarrhea: Corn should not be consumed raw as it can result in diarrhea and intestinal irritation. 5. Increases Weight: As mentioned before, corn contains a heavy dose of sugar and carbohydrate. Over eating of corn can surely lead to weight gain. People on a diet or weight-loss programs should avoid consumption of corn. 6. Leads To Lethargy: Corn contains an ample amount of starch. Starch can cause drowsiness and lead to low energy levels. In general the current modified form of corn is leading to many health concerns to our human bodies. As a rule of thumb we should always take care in the quality of foods we eat. According to review published in the New England Journal of Medicine, gluten is responsible for causing at least 35 diseases. Some of them are ADHD (attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder), anxiety, depression, arthritis, fatigue, loss of muscle coordination, organ inflammation, osteoporosis, fungal overgrowth, eczema and lupus.
