Meet Michael, a LevelUp success story! "I valued the support the whole team gave to me, I appreciate everything everyone did to support me during these past few months. Michael was unemployed for about two months before he joined the LevelUp program in April of 2020 because the company he worked for shut down due to Covid 19. Michael’s latest job was seasonal and based on events so when Covid 19 hit, all events were cancelled for the foreseeable future. The industry that M...ichael worked in was security and he couldn’t find stable, regular full-time employment. He struggled with all tasks required to find a job and felt that he was missing some sort of additional training or education to secure a leadership role. In his experience with the security industry finding a job was through word of mouth and referrals, so Michael never needed to properly apply with a resume and cover letter. Michael connected with the LevelUp employee and they navigated the resources and program together. Michael got one on one virtual coaching, updated resumes, cover letters and LinkedIn profile, practiced mock videos and got new contacts and referrals to other companies. I valued the support the whole team gave to me, Michael stated, and I appreciate everything everyone did to support me during these past few months. An excellent student, Michael took all the resources, advice and information from LevelUp and used it to his advantage. He stepped out of his comfort zone, did not give up and stayed with the job search plan. Michael gained confidence and was able to clearly define his values and what skills and knowledge he could bring to the job. He was given formal leadership training and felt the mock interviews, resume writing, and the project management learning was the most beneficial. Michael was successful! He secured full time employment, 40 hours a week, as a security officer! His hard work paid off and he is a prime example of how one can be successful if they want it. See more
What's Happening Wednesday: Last week our learners wrapped up the "in-class" virtual workshops portion of the LevelUp Program. That doesn't mean they're done though, now they will have two full weeks of dedicated time with Job Developers and Employer Engagement Specialists to support them in finding employment and putting their newly acquired skills to use. After these two weeks, clients enter a 90 day follow-up period where these Job Developers and Employer Engagement Specialists continue to offer weekly support in job search. Some aspects our clients can expect are specific job leads, resume and cover letter tailoring support, a fresh set of eyes for edits, and strategy support when what you're doing just isn't hitting the mark.
Tuesday's Tip: Have a professional email address and voicemail message. You can have a great looking resume, but if the email address at the top says '[email protected]', the employer may not take you seriously. This also applies to your voicemail message. Leave the ‘Hey, you’ve reached Brad at the party house. I can’t come to the phone because I’m too awesome’ for after you’ve secured the job.
Job search is difficult and can be stressful, so we'll give you some #MondayMantras to get you through these tough times. #MondayMantras for Job Seekers Love the life you live. Live the life you love. Bob Marley
