The auction is now closed - thank you to all who participated! We sold an astonishing 100% of the lots offered at an average of 40% over the low end of the estimate. There were over 15,000 bids over the course of the auction. For local clients, we will be open for pickups Monday, March 22 from 1PM - 6PM and Tuesday to Friday from 10:30AM - 5:30PM. Pickups are curbside and by appointment only - please email or call us to book. For out-of-town clients, we offer in-house packing... and shipping. Please contact us to arrange your packing and shipping. The next auction is an Online Auction closing April 18. Catalogues will be mailed out next week and the website will be updated April 1. Wow - what a week after an amazing auction! We are finally calming down a bit here and wanted to say a sincere thank you to all our consignors and bidders. We are very pleased with the strong results including some new records at auction. We offered 388 lots and after selling 97% at an average of 70% over the low end of the estimate, we’re taking the weekend off. We will send out a full summary of the auction results next week, in the meantime, we truly appreciate your support and are happy to see such strength in the Canadian art market both locally and beyond

Doris Jean McCarthy was born in 1910; she was born to be an artist. Strongly influenced by the Group of Seven in her formative years, McCarthy, nonetheless developed her own form of art and vision. She hearkened to the rhythm within her own soul and went her own way, painting swooping forests, snow scenes, beaches, spring ice, fall colours, doing portrait drawing and still life. Sybil Andrews grew up in England and to go to school, she studied to be a welder and took an art correspondence course. At the end of the WWI she taught art and then worked as secretary at the Grosvenor School of Art. From her earnings, she was able to enroll and became part of the now worldwide recognized Grosvenor School. During WWII she went back to welding and working on warships. It was during that time (late 30s to early 40s) that the few oil paintings that have shown u...p on the market tend to date. .
