After a few decades in the ad and marketing game, I have come to the conclusion that 85% of what agencies "offer", 90% of what marketing departments gauge success on, and 95% of what "branding" gurus say is complete, unadulterated bullshit, created to serve themselves, not their clients. The more complicated the marketplace becomes, the greater the need for simplicity. Here's something else: you cannot create an "authentic" brand. If you are authentic, you need only define it. If you're not authentic, all the hype in the world won't make you so. The trick is chip away all the BS that isn't "you", not add a load of crap the "experts" say you MUST have. But agencies can't change their outrageously inflated fees for that.
