Visibility and representation can be deeply affirming for trans youth. Today is Trans Day of Visibility, dedicated to celebrating trans people and raising awareness of discrimination faced by trans people worldwide. Today, and everyday, we honour those who are loud and proud with their visibility, as well as those who are not publicly visible and choose not to be. At YouthLine, we are proud to affirm, support, and celebrate trans youth! ... To trans youth, we’re here for you. Lets talk! Our HelpLine is open Sunday-Friday: Call us: 6 PM - 9 PM, 1-800-268-9688 Text us: 4PM - 9:30PM, 647-694-4275 Chat with us: 4PM - 9:30PM, youthline.ca #TDoV #tdov2021 #tdov21 #canqueer #2slgbtq #transyouth
It's disheartening to think that after all these conversations about dreaming & different futures, we’re still stuck in a place of survival." YouthLine staff member Hayley Moody & CJRU 1280AM's Sam Dharmasena speak about our #DoBetter report here: www.cjru.ca//do-better-report-calls-for-systemic-change-fr
"Youth in most parts of Ontario are still facing homophobia, biphobia, transphobia daily. As an organization, we remain committed to reach youth across Ontario making sure they know they are not alone; to make sure they can reach out not just when they are struggling but also to just chat, and share stories, and joy with another queer, trans, Two-Spirit young person." A huge thank-you to Yohomo for this feature, and for donating $5 from every sale of the Stay Homo 2.0 shirt to us! Shop here: yohomo.ca/shop
Recommendation #4 to #DoBetter: Meaningful involvement of 2SLGBTQ+ youth (especially racialized & Indigenous 2SLGBTQ+ youth) in decision-making at the local, regional & provincial levels. 2SLGBTQ+ youth do not want to be engaged in a tokenistic way. Decision-makers must work to develop trust & build relationships with 2SLGBTQ+ youth.
