These webinars feature practical tips and resources for anyone whose mental health has been impacted by the pandemic. Master Tony Kook’s North Shore Taekwondo took their annual Christmas party online this year - hosting a virtual trivia party and donating the proceeds to LGH. Thank you for continuing the tradition of your charitable Christmas party, and to all the families who participated in raising $2,400 for our community hospital.

Dean Moncado, local teacher, found our first Golden Ticket. Dean purchased his chocolate from Assal, a student and youth volunteer at the Foundation. With golden ticket in hand, Dean collected his $100 Save-on-Foods gift card just in time for a final Christmas shop. Thank you to Assal and Mr. Moncado for supporting LGH. There are still four golden tickets waiting to be claimed hidden in bars of our Swiss milk chocolate bars available at all Save-on-Foods outlets on the North Shore.

Ginger Jar Furniture has been a loyal supporter of the Foundation for over 30 years. Since 1989, they’ve donated over $62,000 to LGH, along with much needed furniture for various departments in the hospital. Thank you Ginger Jar Furniture for your generous donation to the Critical Care Unit, and for your continued support.

Congratulations to Kyla of Limelight Floral Design in Dunderave - the winner of our Fall 50/50. Kyla, a long-time supporter who has previously supplied flowers for our galas, took home the winner’s cheque of $4,555. Congratulations Kyla and thank you to everyone who purchased tickets. The remaining funds raised from the 50/50 directly support patient care at LGH.

Thank you to Qubecore Sports & Rehab, who’ve teamed up with several health studios and clinics to raise funds for the Critical Care Unit. They’re hosting a series of virtual health workshops, available by donation. Their first workshop on posture raised $820! Thank you to everyone who attended and made a donation. Jim Pike, along with his restaurant teams, are true change makers who have supported big improvements in patient care. ... Since 2017 they have been supporting Lions Gate Hospital through our Gala, Golf Tournament, and as founding partners for LGH Week. Jim Pike’s drive to support local health care is outstanding and we are grateful for it.

Philanthropy. It’s a word we hear a lot these days, but what does it actually mean? Simply defined, it means ‘love of humanity.’ To celebrate National Philanthropy Day, we’re recognizing five categories of Philanthropy on the North Shore: Outstanding Youth; Local Business; North Shore Community Group; Corporate Partner; and Unsung Hero. Today we’d like to recognize our Outstanding Youth Philanthropist - none other than Owen Ostler! ... Owen Ostler, a Carson Graham Secondary student, had no experience with endurance running when he set out to complete a solo marathon for charity. In June, he ran 42 kilometres around Fen Burdett Stadium to raise funds for the Critical Care Unit coming to LGH. I’ve seen so much fundraising going towards COVID-19, I was wondering what areas had been overlooked or neglected, Ostler told the North Shore News back in June. I just thought, it’s a pretty small world I could know someone who needs that care. Owen exceeded his fundraising goal, raising $11,000, and earning the attention of media outlets around the city. Julie McAdam (pictured left) is a North Shore Community Nurse who has given back in a big way this year. At the height of the lockdown in the spring, Julie saw a need to provide vulnerable residents in the community with meals. Determined to help, she set out to fundraise and assemble a team of volunteers to deliver meals. We'd like to recognize Julie McAdam as our 'Unsung Hero' for National Philanthropy Day. Julie worked with Soup Meister and Cobs Bread in Lonsdale Qua...y to prepare meals, and raised enough funds to deliver meals until July. Shop for HOpe This Saturday, November 21st, you can shop, save, and support mental health services on the North Shore. Local boutique, Get Dressed, is hosting their annual customer appreciation event, selling surprise goodie bags. All proceeds go to charity, and this year with the added stress people are experiencing, they are donating the proceeds to the HOpe Centre.... These bags sell for $40, $50, and $60, and are worth twice the donation price of the bag. To keep the community safe, goodie bags will be sold online. Sales open at 9AM this Saturday. In March, at the beginning of COVID-19, Cooper (age 9) started a little business called Cooper Cans & Co. and has been collecting cans & bottles in his neighbourhood with the hopes to raise as much as possible for Lions Gate Hospital. With the help of his brother, Ford (7), sister Rees (11), and good friends, he’s raised $2,250 for LGH. Thank you Cooper Cans & Co. for this very thoughtful donation.

Parisa Faridi is taking part in this weekend’s North Shore Hospice Hike & Bike in memory of her mother Parvaneh. I learned about hospice when my mother was at LGH and receiving palliative care. She did not stay there but I got to see what a great facility it was and how they really cared for their patients. I got involved with fundraising for the hospice because it was a great way to remember my mother and support the amazing palliative and hospice team at LGH.
