Almost every email I get from couples says something like "we're not really used to being photographed and we're a little awkward on camera." And my response is usually something like - of course you are! (bare with me please ). Most people have zero experience with being photographed in the fun, professional manner they'll experience with their wedding photographer. Instead, most of the time, the experiences we grow up with are what stick with us and shape us most. It's n...o surprise that if you grew up doing boring walmart backdrop photoshoots, getting your photo done at shoppers drug mart with the grumpy passport photo person, or sitting down for a cheesy grin-and-go grad photo, the entire experience probably feels clumsy and awkward to you (because it was). But there's a world of difference that happens when you're working with someone who sees you for you and leans into the unique connection that you and your partner have together. One way I tap into this is by starting every session with a walk. Walking while being photographed *immediately* creates a disconnect that breaks the mold of how you were photographed for most moments of your life. There's no pressure, you just grab your partner's hand and go It's the best.

I've always been a fan - both because of the emotional aspect but also because of the added efficiency it provides for the wedding day. This only became more apparent in 2020 as weddings moved to smaller, more intimate formats... In fact, every couple that did a first look and photos together before the ceremony ultimately got to spend more time with the close friends and family that were a part of their day

Anyone else find that they’ve been less keen on social media lately? I’m usually quite pro-social media. I think the pros tend to outweigh the cons and the negative aspects associated with social media are usually human characteristics that are expressed privately in other ways if not online. In other words, I feel social media seems to expose people more than it changes them. But lately, I just haven’t felt the same way. I’ve spent a lot of time keeping my phone in ot...her parts of the house, even in random cupboards or places I won’t walk past and automatically pick it up. I realized a few weeks ago that I can get everything I NEED delivered to my watch or laptop. Essentially, I’ve just been aiming to break the cycle of scrolling that consumes so much of the little time I have in the first place. (and it’s been awesome). The past few weeks have been highly productive, and also filled with plenty of summer fun That said, I’ve neglected my feed and I don’t like that. I want to continue to share my work consistently. So I’m going to look for ways to do that better, and get back into systems that will help me keep my feed consistent. Weekly roundup! 10 non-wedding photos from my week Okay right off the bat I admit that I’m not following my rules very well because the first photo (and second I guess) is from a wedding I shot on Friday near Ottawa at @calabogiepeaks! It had pesto mayo too - Keeping my little office helper off of my keyboard - Getting tested for COVID19. No symptoms btw! Just felt it was the safe choice after traveling for a few days. In between my regular wedding content, I’m going to start doing a weekly feed post with images from my day to day life. I’m always documenting whether with clients or in my spare time and I’d love to share more of that day to day work with you all. To start us off: this past week was filled with many fun moments with Rosalie. She’s been a little personality lately (read: her whole life) and there’s been so much to capture. Feat. random plants, nice clouds in the sky, and kittens in cupboards. Enjoy! Rachel & Josh were supposed to host their wedding on June 6th but had to push to 2021 (for obvious reasons). They decided in the meantime to get married at the cottage they had spent so much time at over the years. Congrats you two! It was an honour to be a part of your intimate celebration and I look so forward to your party next year

One of my favorite parts of wedding days is stealing the couple away for a few minutes either during or after speeches. Sometimes I feel bad (because I want them to have time with their guests) but it’s always worth it. No matter the wedding, there’s always a feeling of we did it during that session that wasn’t present earlier in the day when so much was yet to happen.
