On the walls of the cave, only the shadows are the truth. Plato’s Cave In Plato’s Cave there are four character types. Most people are chained, forced to watch images on a cave wall. Some, however, are so transfixed with the imagery on the wall that the shadows are all they care about and remain in the cave by choice. The images are cast on the wall by the third character, the captors, using fire to produce various shadows, to keep the captors entertained. The prisoners int...erpret the shadows and whatever noises are made as a reality in total, for all they know. Plato suggests that the prisoners would begin a game of guessing which shadow would appear next. If one of the prisoners would guess correctly, the others would praise him as a master of nature. The fourth character is the freed prisoner, released from the false imagery to which society is subjected to. The freed prisoner, after the initial shock and distress, learns to distinguish between reality and shadows, and sees the fire producing the shadows. When exiting the cave, he is first blinded by the light but eventually learns the basics of nature. He learns what is real what is shadow what is reflection. He learns of Earth and Water and that all is dependent on the Sun, the Moon,the seasons and all of life. After learning the reality outside the cave, free of the false images, the prisoner is inclined to return and inform those still confined to the cave to advise them of their predicament. Returning to the darkness of the cave blinds him which lead the prisoners to believe that life outside the cave is dangerous. The captive prisoners threaten to kill him when he tries to set them free. The Allegory of the Cave proposes that what people take to be reality in total is only a partial reality. The allegory is about breaking mainstream thinking and seeking individual knowledge; the ascension of perspective; being in a cave and coming out of a cave. Half moon womb // yesterday I honoured my inner child, today I honour the shell of a warrior within which she can safely play and express herself. Like the Russian doll I played with in my grandmothers home as a child, I can feel each mending version of me tucked beneath the surface of who I am in this moment of 30 earth years. Through my womb and grandmother moon I know I am not alone. I stand connected to my mother and all my grandmothers who came before us and like cir...cular waves of light around the moon our connections expand to the whole of the human family. We are all connected. With this awareness I choose to express myself and to hold space for others to express themselves creatively in honour of all who could not and cannot fully shine their light and follow the divine guidance bursting in their hearts. 30 is about not being fooled to think that my existence is only about me. It’s for me to play a supporting part in a way bigger story. The stories we write, the photos we take, the barriers and cycles we break, the prayers we make, the service we offer, the art we create. It’s for all of us. It’s for the earth. It’s for the unification and healing of humanity. Each expression plays its part in lighting up the skyline. Aura of Golden Light Just when we packed up and thought the shoot was over for the day. We opened the curtains of the studio and in came a beam of golden light, cutting through the darkness and illuminating the studio wall. We shot a glance at one another, with few words exchanged we understood this was a gift and an invitation to step into the golden light. A jolt of lightening ran through us. The sisterhood wound is one that ran deep in my coming of age. Projecting our own insecurities onto one another as we grew up in a society that valued competition over community . The thing about this sisterhood wound is it runs so much deeper than you and I, we must continually transform this energy into love when it arises as it is an aspect of our collective consciousness to be healed. Both passive and active wounds rooted in division can be alchemized into love thr...ough light and shadow work. Every healing between two souls ripples into the healing of the whole. My creative alchemy is and has been photography, allowing me to truly focus and see the beauty and unique divine magic in each soul who stands in front of me. The depth of beauty I allow myself to see in others is a mirror of the capacity I have to then love and see beauty within myself. As each woman opens her heart to her true self we learn there is no competition in the realm of authenticity. We are all seeds of the divine sprouting and blossoming on our own time.
