In our house, the family printer is in my office. That means my days are sometimes interrupted by the kids and their homework. We make it work. Like many of you..., we’ve been adjusting to new routines this year and it hasn’t always been easy. One of the things we’ve come to appreciate, though, is that we’re able to spend more time together. Whether it’s in between meetings and classes, during homework, or at the dinner table, Sophie and I are finding more time to talk with our kids about school, sports, and so much more - including mental health. We’ve always had regular conversations with them about mental wellness, but we’ve made it even more of a priority this past year. I’ve been inspired by their courage and candidness, and I could say the same thing about my conversations with young people right across the country. I’m glad so many of them are taking part in today’s Bell Let’s Talk events. It’s because of them that we’re able to keep breaking down stigma and keep building a country without barriers. So let’s keep talking, Canada.

We reached 4th of the top calls! Last weekend, our volunteers of Markham-Unionville did an incredible job, the number of phone calls we made rank 4 out of 121 in all Ontario federal ridings! Thank all volunteers for your tremendous work!

Update: As of today, business owners can apply for new support measures. If you own a small business, run a charity, or operate a non-profit that has suffered a... drop in revenue because of the pandemic, the new Canada Emergency Rent Subsidy is there to help you. It will cover up to 65% of your rent, and will now come directly to you - not through your landlord. If your business is facing a public health lockdown order, more assistance is available for you - the new Lockdown Support could boost your rent subsidy by 25%. Combined with the regular rent assistance, hard-hit businesses could receive a rent subsidy of up to 90%. On top of this support, the Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy has been extended until June of next year. So if you need help keeping your employees on the payroll during these tough times, this support remains available to you. This morning, Prime Minister Boris Johnson and I - along with Minister Ng and Secretary Truss - announced the new Canada-UK Trade Continuity Agreement. The UK i...s our most important trading partner in Europe, and our fifth-largest partner globally, so reaching this agreement was critical - and it’s good news for businesses and workers in both countries. This agreement will preserve the main benefits of CETA, including the elimination of tariffs on 98% of Canadian products exported to the UK. It will also provide our businesses with the seamless transition they need, and the stability and predictability they’re looking for - and given all the uncertainty that comes with COVID-19, that’s more important than ever.
