Flu shots are available now for high risk patients. Full program to start on the October 19th. Covid has made our world different. Please call ahead for an appointment and arrive on time. We do not have room for large numbers of patients to remain in the store for 15 minutes as per AH protocol. This is for you and our staff’s protection. Flu strains change every year so you need a shot every year. Researchers try to pick the most dangerous and contagious strains that wo...uld arrive, not necessarily the most common. The flu shot, although a dead virus, can cause fever and soreness as side effects, much like covid symptoms. We want these effects as this is what builds flu immunity. The flu shot will help protect against many strains of flu but is not effective against Covid. Covid will likely layer onto flu cases but is independent of the flu. Likely but not for sure. This is because the flu and covid are transmitted similarly through breathing and touch. You need to build immunity to what you can when you can. Wearing masks and hand washing will help prevent both. Please call us and make an appointment.

A number of people have asked when the 30-day cap on prescriptions would be lifted. Good news: today our government announced that the limit will be lifted on Monday, June 15. While supply levels appear to be returning to normal, some drugs are still in limited supply. Pharmacists should use their professional judgment and dispense a 30-day supply when necessary for specific drugs that continue to have shortages or supply chain issues. Pharmacists can use the drug shortage list posted on the Alberta Blue Cross website as a reference. For more information, read here: https://www.alberta.ca/release.cfm

Pharmacists to Dispense a Maximum 30-day Supply Until Further Notice RxA reminds all pharmacists that until further notice, all prescriptions must be dispensed within a maximum supply of 30 days. All across Canada, the demand for prescription medications has increased putting tremendous pressure on the medication supply and its ability to continue to meet the needs of patients. Accordingly, all pharmacists must mitigate quantities by dispensing only to meet a maximum 30-day supply, unless packaging or special circumstances require otherwise. Any supply beyond 30 days should only be provided under exceptional circumstances. Personal convenience should not be considered a valid reason for greater than 30-day supply, given the elevated demand for medications faced by everyone.

The less time you spend at the pharmacy, the better so here’s what I’ve been advising people: 1. Call ahead for refills, preferably a day ahead. This also helps pharmacy staff manage their workload. 2. I’ve been asking people if they would like to wait in their car while we do their rxs. We will call their mobile when it’s ready. 3. Call the pharmacy if you have a new prescription. You can send it to or read it to the pharmacist so they can have it ready and save face to ...face time. 4. Give your pharmacist time. He or she is a health professional like a doctor or nurse. They are making decisions in real time that affect you and your family’s health. 5. We have a delivery person. Do not feel like you have to come and pick up your prescriptions if you don’t want to or need to. We will work with you to get you your necessary medications. 6. We can refill most prescriptions if you don’t want or need to see the dr. Call us and we will do our best to help keep you safe and healthy. 7. Please stay home if you can, don’t hoard, wash your hands often, and be kind! See more
