Brian Dykeman was one of the Artisans at Norwood during A Taste of Life at the Lakes on August 8. The usual Life at the Lakes festival did not take place this year, but we shall positively look towards next year. This annual August festival takes place the weekend after New Brunswick Day.

Akerley Area Quilt Guild designed a ‘Drive by Quilt Show on Aug 8, 2020. In our community, we have a two day event each year on the second weekend in August, ca...lled Life at the Lakes. At this time we hold our show in one of the churches. With the pandemic here in Canada for the summer 2020 and no large gatherings allowed, our guild knew we would not be able to have our quilt show. So this year we had to get creative to be able to show off our work during the weekend of A Taste of Life at the Lakes (a small event to keep this weekend going). Since we needed social distancing and be outside, we held a ‘drive by’ quilt show in the yard of our Municipal building which has a u shape driveway out in front, with a one way direction. So we borrowed wooden stands from the Kennebecasis Valley Quilt Guild to hang our quilts and placed them all along the edge of pavement. We had one quilt from each member and an information sheet was available to identify each quilt plus our raffle quilt. The theme was ‘old and new’ with every member joining in. Our members wore their mask to greet the cars as they drove in. They were asked to drive slowly and not stop as they viewed our work. Many visitors took photos out of their car windows. All 29 members took part in our show, showing their talents. This show was held for one day 10 am to 4 pm Saturday with Sunday as rain day for back up. There were 117 cars who drove by with 221people in these cars. This didn’t include our members and husbands who worked to make this day a success. We had lovely day with quilts of all sizes blowing in the breeze. See more
