This is a great initiative happening in our community by Home Instead Senior Care to spread some cheer this holiday season. The initiative provides holiday cheer by delivering gifts to lonely or low-income seniors who might otherwise go without any gifts or visitors during the holidays. Currently, when potential donors on Canadian Blood Services Stem Cell Registry are contacted to donate stem cells for a patient, only about 50 per cent of them follow through, says Dr. Heidi Elmoazzen, director of stem cells at Canadian Blood Services. Joining the registry is a long-term commitment. Read the latest press release: ... http://ow.ly/Rc3a50CtR2H #StemCellsForLife

Rhonda Dawes saw a story on Global News in 2017 about a man willing to donate his kidney to a complete stranger. She was inspired by the man’s willingness to help someone he didn’t even know. After listening to it, I just said, ‘I want to do that too!' Dawes said. She signed up to be a living donor, opting to give her kidney to someone she would never meet. ... http://ow.ly/1Cn650Cok9R #OrgansTissuesForLife Via Global News

Donation 32 today! Today's donation is for a dear colleague whose father, husband, and a friend are all battling cancer. You think you've had a crappy 2020? Think again when you have your health and home. Many people with cancer require blood or platelet transfusions, and the need for blood does NOT stop during COVID or Christmas. Do something to serve someone else this week, whether friend, family, client or stranger. Send a food delivery, drop off a favorite drink, mail ...a card, email an e-book, order a magazine subscription, pray, give to the food bank, call a friend, clear a sidewalk, say thank you, leave a 30% tip, bake treats, message me about giving blood. Service is simple, don't wait for the perfect time - there are no perfect servants, just start. #repost @lakeviewaquaticconsultnts #thankyou #blooddonor #canadabloodservices #blooddonation #canadaslifeline #calgary #yyc #blood #donor #lakeviewaquaticconsultnts

On Monday November 9th, an amazing thing happened. Our blood drive in #Midland turned into #MilestoneMonday! With 118 donors attending, we discovered 9 of them were making milestone donations. These dedicated donors are responsible for a combined 585 units of blood over the years! Swipe ... Here’s a fun fact about each of them: Kimberly - following in her mom's footsteps, who is no longer eligible, so she's carrying the torch now! Carolyn - a co-worker first brought her to a clinic and she’s so glad Mike made me do it! Doug - donated for years with the Red Cross then got away from it, but came back when his son became a nurse. Brian - has actually donated way more than 25 times, but overseas, when he was a teacher in South Korea for 20 years. Richard - routinely gave together with his wife over the years, as a special thing they would do together. John - inspired by his mother, who donated over 100 times herself! Grace - started donating when she was a nursing student in Toronto. Leonard - donated the first time with some buddies in high school & throughout his career as an OPP officer. Andrew - it was a co-worker who first brought him to a clinic, and over the years, they would often be able to donate over their lunch break and make it back to work in time. He now encourages co-workers in the same way. Milestones like this don’t come along every day so we were so happy to capture these special occasions. Thank you to all of our dedicated donors! #Midland #SimcoeCounty #GiveLife #DonateBlood #CanadasLifeline #milestonemonday #repost @blooddonorsofthenorth
