Lifesaving sport, your community needs you! Scott and Laura Van Doormaal are former lifesaving sport athletes from Guelph. They supported the development of lifesaving sport in Ontario and Canada through as members of the National team at the 2008 World Lifesaving Championships and the 2009 Commonwealth Lifesaving Championships. At 5 weeks old, Scott and Laura's daughter Lucy was diagnosed with SMA1, a neuromuscular disorder that is left untreated means Lucy won't make it to ...her second birthday. The Van Doormaal's need our support as they raise $3 million for Lucy’s lifesaving treatment. Please watch their video, donate to their go fund me campaign, and share Lucy's story. They're so close to reaching their goal, let's see them across the finish line. https://www.gofundme.com/f/lucyvandoormaal https://www.instagram.com/lifeforlucy_/
The next Commonwealth Lifesaving Championships was scheduled to be held in Ontario Canada in September 2021. Given the continuing situation regarding the Covid... pandemic and the uncertainty that creates for our hosts, our members, and those planning to attend, it has been decided to postpone the Championships until September 2023. The decision to postpone until 2023, rather than move the event to 2022, is to ensure the Commonwealth Championships do not clash with other events in the lifesaving sporting calendar The Ontario branch of the Lifesaving Society will still be our host at that time and further details will be available in June course. We understand that many of the athletes, officials and volunteers who were planning to attend the 2021 event will be disappointed, but the RLSS Board of Trustees, Lifesaving Society Canada and their Ontario Branch have given careful consideration to all possible options and believe this is the most suitable outcome
