Please CARE and SHARE for Ace. Please read his bio in its entirety if you are interested in adopting him. There are some things he can do safely and other acti...vities that are dangerous for him. His foster mom has done an incredible job and has made a thorough list of requirements that will help you understand Ace's needs and restrictions. THANK YOU everyone for your continued support and for helping us spread the word about our dogs :) Big WAGS to Michelle from Inline Design Photos! Ace is an approximately 2-year-old neutered male 8lb. Toy Poodle and has quite the story to tell. Ace is a tripod meaning he only has three legs; the right front leg was amputated back in 2019 after it broke when he fell off the kitchen counter. In 2020, the left front leg broke when his then owner was throwing heavy boxes in the backseat and evidently didn’t realize he had moved from the front seat to the back. He came to Speaking of Dogs Rescue in May 2020 from an urgent care clinic when his owner could no longer care for him. We took him directly to an orthopedic surgeon where he underwent surgery to save the only front leg he had left. His foster mom is a vet tech and did everything right but unfortunately after 10 weeks of healing time, the x-rays showed the break had not healed. We became aware of a new technique involving a 3-D printer that might work for Ace. After the consult and workup, we were over the moon to hear that Ace was a candidate for the procedure. Another 10 weeks went by and when the call came from the orthopedic surgeon we were ecstatic: the surgery was a success! He is now ready for his new life and family, so here’s what we know: He greets everyone with enthusiasm and pleasure. So far, he hasn’t met a person he hasn’t liked. Ace is, without a doubt, the sweetest, kindest and bravest dog we know. He never complains, he's always ready with wags and kisses for his caregivers and is king of cuddles. A primary focus of his care, besides all the cuddles and kisses he’s going to be expecting, is to keep him safe and manage his mobility for the rest of his life. He is still learning what he can safely do and not do and needs his new family to help keep him managed. He is easy going, likes curling up and relaxing. Enjoys little walks, sniffing about and exploring. Needs a safe environment where he can be all the dog he can be, but also avoid any further injuries. A one-level home would be ideal. Safety and mobility can be challenging for a three-legged dog. Ideally his forever home will provide: o Traction for him - a carpeted home or one that has lot of runner rugs for traction to help him move safely. Another possibility would be grip boots or socks and keeping the fur of his feet short. o A healthy and fit body Ace should stay slim, so he does not have any extra weight to carry around. o Ace should either be fed a good joint/mobility diet or a joint supplement forever. o Ace will benefit from a safe exercise routine and /or possibly even a preventative rehabilitation program. o Ace is crate trained and sleeps overnight in it. This keeps him safe when everyone is sleeping and unable to watch him. o Ace prefers not to be in the crate otherwise and will get anxious in a crate through the day and is currently anxious when on his own. He’s had 24-hour care throughout his post-op recovery and is used to having someone always with him. o Ace’s surgeon has recommended assistance on and off of the couch or bed as well as supervision to prevent him from jumping off and reinjuring himself. o A follow up x-ray of his leg in May which will give us more of an idea about his future limitations and freedoms. o Ace is housetrained but has almost always been only on a leash or in his spot a mat or bed, which he happily stays in (mostly). o Ace will need regular grooming including keeping his nails short to help him move around the best he can. o Although he is great with other dogs, he should be the only dog so he doesn't injure his leg playing or jumping with another dog. o If he breaks his leg again, he will lose it, so he needs an adopter who will be super vigilant and devoted to his care and good management. o He is a young dog with lots of good times ahead of him; he needs a committed adopter so he can live a safe, happy and full life. We had a big scare this morning I want to share with you. This is Dewzee she is one year old and weighs only eight pounds she will get to be about ten pounds. A...nyway, we have one of those weighted blankets. You know being sold as comfort blankets very heavy. Dewzee got under it and couldn’t get out. We walked in as she was struggling to get out but it was too heavy for her. When we lifted she started coughing because she got sudden air. Needless to say the blanket is being tossed. Perhaps why they didn’t sell well. Dewzee is ok but it was a close call. So we wanted to share with all of you in the hopes we can prevent a tragedy. See more

Please CARE and SHARE for HANDSOME, BIG boy Pappy! His current foster mom had scheduled some renovations for later in the year but the contractor called and ch...anged the timeline and needs to start the reno THIS week so now we are looking for either a FOSTER or a FOREVER home for Paps! Pappy is a large shepherd mix who weighs in at 110 pounds. He was found as a stray and was never claimed. The shelter thought he might be around 9 years old (however, our foster mom feels he could be younger) and in good shape. This boy is full of love and affection! He is affable and friendly but has a large bark that could be intimidating. He is very food motivated and you will need to keep a careful eye on food around the home. Given his size, he is capable of knocking someone over not aggressively but rather in his unfettered enthusiasm. His leash manners need some work but given his food motivation, he won’t be hard to train. He gets on well with the dogs he has met, but some of them find his size overwhelming and react by barking and lunging at him but he does not react back at them or become agitated. Pappy is housetrained, good in the car and has medium energy If you are looking for a gentle giant of a dog, look no further - it's PAPPY! If you are keen to make Pappy a part of your family please fill out the adoption appilcation at: https://www.speakingofdogs.com//dog-adoption-application-2/

For those that are not on the Whitevale Grapevine and may not know, Norman Collier if gravely ill. Whitevale is trying to help out by donating food and money t...o help feed the animals. Here's how you can help Norman is resting, his son Chris has arrived from Amsterdam and has to isolate for 14 days and is doing so at the farm. There are medical staff coming and going and because of this they have asked that we stay away from the barn. The animals will remain at the barn until Norman goes, it would break his heart to see them leaving. If you have inquires about the animals you can contact Breanne Littley at [email protected] or on her cell 416-618-6597, but try not to bother her too much, she's very busy. If you want to make a donation you can drop off cheques or money in their mailbox or if you prefer to send an e-transfer you can do so at [email protected]. If you want to send a card you can send it to Norman Collier, 2825 York Durham Line, Pickering, Ontario, L1V 2P9 Thank you for all your support Lloyd Thomas See more
