We’ve taken the first few steps into the new year and everyone is back to the grind. When the new year comes around everyone talks about resolutions and changes they want to take but I've come to live by this rule: ++++If you want something to happen - start it today.++++ We always hear " I'll start working out on Monday, I'll take that trip when I get some time off, I'll book that appointment when I make some time"....and that time rarely ever comes until it's too late to d...o anything about it. Let 2019 be a year of TODAY. Only TODAY is guaranteed.

A few questions that come up in conversation is the difference between being covered through your employer and having individual coverage. A few reasons why its not the same thing: - The coverage ceases when your employment with the company does - The employer owns the policy and can terminate the plan at their discretion -The coverage is not transferable or renewable - the coverage is not customizable to your specific needs... Give us a call and we can help asses your needs and make sure youre secure with good coverage. Happy Friday!!

12 days to Christmas and we all know what that means.....last minute travelling, shopping and wrapping. When travelling across the border there is a dollar limit to how much you can bring back: less than 24 hrs $0, no personal exemptions 24-48 hrs $200 per person... more than 48 hours $800 per person Check out the mini guide for some examples but for details on specific items call the CBSA toll free at 1-800-461-9999

There is more to purchasing a life insurance then you think but it’s also made simpler then ever before. Today I want to bring up a few points that have come up in recent conversation that I found interesting. Did you know.................................. - For most insurance companies you could apply for non-smoker rates if you have refrained from smoking cigarettes for at least 12 months. (marijuana use has different definitions) talk with your advisor - Obtaining a lif...e insurance policy instead of a mortgage insurance works just as well or even better in some cases talk with your advisor - There are life insurance companies that will exclude certain activities or conditionsread the fine print and discuss details with your advisor before writing a policy - If you have a budget on how much you can spend on insurance your advisor can work around creating a plan for you to suit your needs talk with your advisor - When applying for insurance being pregnant is considered a condition and may delay the underwriting process, result in being rated or having exclusions. Plan ahead- talk with your advisor. You guys get the point.. it’s important to have an open and honest relationship with your advisor. Take the time to discuss your concerns, financial situation, lifestyle and health history. We are working on your team and want to make sure you’re protected and cared for.

My post today will be a short but sweet reminder Today a year ago I was on my way to Mozambique, Africa not to vacation and do a little safari (although those dreams are still yet to be fulfilled) but to do some humanitarian work and share a little love with this world. These experiences have grounded me to realize we need to set time aside from our every day to do a little good in this world. We cannot take for granted the prosperity and blessings we have living in Canada -especially the Okanagan. They say life is the sum of your decisionsmake them count!

Welcome to the first blog post on the Lifestyle Insurance and Benefits page. Over the years that I’ve been in this industry I have never stopped learning. Never stopped being surprised at how unexpected life can really be. I witnessed just how important it is to assess your insurance and financial protection needs so that you can act now rather then when its too late. At the start of this year I had a conversation with a group of young people that were talking about how tab...oo the topic of insurance is among their age group. They didn’t have faith in insurance policies because they didn’t understand how it worked or imagined it to be a long and gruesome process. It was then that it dawned on me, I need to create a comfortable and easy space to talk about our lifestyle and what were doing to protect ourselves and the ones we love. I would love to be able to provide some insight and a platform to openly ask questions or talk about experiences. My biggest priority is to provide an understanding of how important it is to think about the things we really don’t want to be thinking about and share everyday lifestyle tips and fun facts along with it. I invite you to participate, share your questions, comments ideas and thoughts. I look forward to this new adventure. - Vicki Boitchenko- See more

CRA Changes impacting Life Insurance Policies There are significant changes coming in the life insurance industry on January 1st 2017 as CRA has updated the legislation surrounding taxation of permanent Universal Life (UL) plans. These policies are used as sophisticated financial vehicles for estate and business succession planning. In most cases clients have identified the tax advantages of using life insurance to pay for the final expenses and inevitable tax liabilities their family will incur upon their death. All Canadian insurers will be impacted by these revisions. For any clients that wish to discuss how you can use your existing life insurance policy to benefit from these changes there is limited time available to process conversions. Please contact us immediately if you are interested.

Can you afford to assume your provincial healthcare will cover you while abroad? For BC residents, MSP will only cover $75/day for hospital coverage. Read the article below to learn why that was most definitely not enough for this poor traveler. Before you assume, consult a professional (Like me ;) ) who can help you avoid any mishaps that will cost you dearly.

Do you know how much it would cost if you had to hire a full-time nanny, cook, housekeeper and personal driver? Stats have shown the "salary" of a stay-at-home spouse can be close to $50,000. To put it simply: Get medical insurance, or stay home. Existing coverage can have loopholes, especially when you are travelling to other countries. Dont assume you are covered for all types of emergencies. Just because you dont think it will happen, doesnt mean it wont.
