2020 has been a wild year, and it's wrapping up with a quiet and isolated Christmas. Usually at this time of year my house would be filled with kids, grandkids, friends, and cheer... this year, the focus is on maintaining mental health, being creative with connection, and practicing gratitude for the health and abundance we have. . I am hosting assemblies with one class in the room (spaced apart, wearing masks), while the other classes watch me on Zoom in their classrooms. There is no better time to be speaking with kids about thumb switch. . Thumb switch is a meaningful way to show what it feels like to make a big change in your life (or these days, to feel change whether you want to or not!). . It goes like this: Clasp your hands together so your fingers intertwine. You'll naturally always clasp your hands the same way. Now switch which thumb lies on top. It feels distinctly weird.... . We are in a time of change, and this is especially hard on teens.
