Let's talk cages! What size is best for your birds? Appropriate bar spacing:... 1/4 1/2 finches, canaries 1/2 budgies, lovebirds, parrotlets 1/2 5/8 cockatiels, ringnecks, doves, pigeons, small conures 5/8 3/4 large conures, senegals, caiques, pionus, jardines 3/4 1 amazons, african greys, mini macaws, goffins cockatoos 1 1.5 large macaws, large cockatoos Look for cages with sturdy bars and if buying second hand avoid rusted or paint peeled cages (unless you plan to have them professionally coated or the rust is on the tray and out of reach) Avoid cages with ornate bars as toes, heads and wings can become stuck Feeder doors should be escape proof with locking latches. Entry doors should be large enough to allow the bird to comfortably come in and out and provide easy access for cleaning and adding toys and accessories . Generally bigger is better (unless you have disabled or very young birds) birds should be able to fully extend both wings comfortably if spending more than half their time caged. Finches and other soft bills need large cages with appropriate bar spacing as they do not climb bars and are very active. When selecting cages opt for length over height.

Since bringing Ozzy home, my other eclectus Elmo became very jealous and aggressive towards him, which has caused numerous issues and injuries over the past years. I’ve tried everything to make it work and have been struggling with this decision for months because I don’t want to let hi...Continue reading
