This post is a blend of good news/bad news. First, let's start with the bad. Covid is in Whistler BIG TIME. Don't f*ck around people. This is not the time to get complacent and we need to take care of our community. I get so annoyed when I hear people saying to me: "Oh well, we heard that Whistler doesn't want people from outside coming there." Well, that's a hard position to take when you are a tourist town but this is our community - our home - our health and safety.... So ya, you're being asked to stay in your primary community unless essentially necessary. And we are being asked to do the same. Okay rant over. Now on to the good news. My bestest friend since I was 5 years old has a birthday today. She gave me this birthday card last month. It made me cry - in a deeply grateful kinda way. We have been through so much together. Distance can't tear us apart. We don't talk all that much but we keep in touch always. And when we do, we don't miss a beat. It's always about love and understanding and the deepest friendship. I started a side group of people on Facebook who are part of the challenge so we can privately share awareness and strategies and life hacks for mental health. And to build awareness in our community around this topic - that is the very essence of this initiative and the behind the scenes work being done by some awesome organizations. I read an amazing article in Yoga Journal by Jenn...ifer Pastiloff called 'Finding Enchantment in Imperfectness Can Heal Us All'. For those that don't - here are an excerpt (and a CHALLENGE) that I loved. There seems to be so much hope that the drama of 2020 is gone. But this virus is a bastard and we are in it for the long haul. We got this though. We lasted through 2020 and it was hard but here we are. You are reading this so you are here. Honestly, this pandemic is not the worse thing that happened to me. 2020 took my sister. That isn't reversible. I'll get through the pandemic when that happens but Peggy is gone. I look at this photo and see incredible love between 2... sisters that had just lost their mother. And 2 women that survived struggles through childhood and beyond. We had an amazing bond. I miss her so much. So 2020 - you were a cruel one but I'm left to live this life. This Brendon Burchard quote nails exactly where my head is at right now. Intention - behaviour - habit - practice. I'm shifting a few things in my life so my time is dedicated to creating those intentions that... you got it - will become behaviour and then a habit and a practice. One of the most powerful things I learned many years ago is to set intentions. I am also a goal setter but intentions set the stage for exactly how I want to feel in my life. I weave that into eve...rything I do with my coaching clients and Lighthouse's mentor program too. We set intentions for each realm of our lives and we choose a word or theme of how we want to feel. I love it so much!!! I'm fine tuning my #2021theme right now. It's a longer process for me - I know my theme but then I work through my guiding principles and goals... and that ties into my values. It is so much more than just a word or theme that pops into my head - it is my guiding light for the entire year. I'll be sharing my 2021 theme in the next couple days so stay tuned. There are always trendy buzzwords and buzzphrases that float around every year but 2020 - well, it was UNPRECEDENTED, right? So I wanted to get something going here and have everyone post in the comments buzzwords/phrases that you heard again and again... and again in 2020. I chose 5 words/phrases that drove me crazy!!! Everytime I heard any of these I did the eyeroll No offense meant if you liked any of these, used any of these but I found this year more than any ...other we just weren't very imaginative and echoed what each other was saying. I'm guilty of it too. So here are my choices: 1. Pivot 2. AF . Since when did everyone start saying the F word? I thought I was the only one. . And not even saying it but just using it in an acronym. 3. Work from home 4. That's a great question. 5. Zoom - like there isn't any other platform available (I eventually switched to Zoom to avoid flack from people) So, tell in the comments. I love the weekly cards from The Oracle: West Vancouver, Sechelt. I had the first full-on productive workday that I’ve had in a long long time. This fall sent me in my ass and everything is so off schedule...it’s daunting. But I was on today! And I just read the card I chose and it is Messenger of Fire. That’s right. ... Ahhhh....what if you fly?

I remember years ago when I owned my employment agency, Christmas would be the only ‘real’ time off I had. It was such a relief because life and work was busy in those days. I would focus on recharging with lots of down time and once the brain fog lifted, I’d shift into reflection and setting intentions and goals. Then with energy restored, I would clean! And be all set to get back to work when January rolled in. Life is different now. I purposely don’t work as much year...-round but still. I get excited about ushering the year out and welcoming a new one. Don’t we all feel that way in 2020? This mini sabbatical has always been pure magic. It is a ritual that I hold tight to, even though my life isn’t as busy now. It is kindness that I give myself. It is hitting the pause button to reflect, celebrate and look forward. And, this year there will be some tears when I consider all I have lost but even that is necessary for healing. Do you take time off for the holidays or do you squeeze work in between the festivities? Any rituals or patterns? Let me know in the comments below. My heart is healing ever so slightly and I'm getting my mojo back. So I'm starting the week off with a bang! RANT ALERT! Oh Canada Post..... our local newspaper covered the story that things are busy in post offices everywhere. In Whistler, there is a variation on this story every single year. It's like the holiday season is a surprise. It is hard to pivot (oooooh.....I really dislike that word but it fits too well not to use here) when you are a massive bureaucracy. There is no incentive to do better, is there?... I've learned to adjust over the years but my efforts often fall flat. This morning, I arrived at 8 am to pick up my parcels and was greeted by a huge line-up. So I just got my mail from my mailbox and will try again another day. And sifting through my mail, Canada Post sent me this. I'm so confused. There are many, many things wrong with this. Okay rant over. For many, many, many years I have used (on myself and shared!) the mantra of gentleness. We all have to be gentle with ourselves. And gentle with others. I saw this posted on someone's IG and it rocked me for many reasons. First, because everything in this is what I truly believe to my core. It is the language I speak and the values and beliefs that I share with others. But right now - it is simply a timely reminder for me. I am trying to give myself grace and be gentle ri...ght now --- not having huge expectations and just... well, being gentle. I am also trying to be gentle with others - trying not to judge, not to be hurt, not to react - instead, remembering love and kindness. Acceptance. Peace. Some days I do better than other days. Whether for business or pleasure, my hubby is an avid traveller. So grounding him for this long has been interesting. I joke that it is a good thing that we enjoy each other's company or this pandemic would be the ultimate test. Life is strange -- and it is really tough for so many. It is WHISTLER FILM FESTIVAL 2020!!! Usually at this time of year, I let everyone know that they won't see me for 4 days because I go from venue to venue watching every film that I can possibly squeeze in. Well, 2020 is different and we get to watch from the comfort of our homes. Some people eat popcorn while watching movies but apparently I eat beets and brussel sprouts. ... I've seen 4: Sugar Daddy, Stray, Still The Water and American Thief. Gotta say Still the Water and Stray are my faves so far. It's a confusing time. And it seems to be getting more confusing. That makes people reactive, frustrated and perhaps even angry. But we need to find ways to make sense of things.... and as we go through that, we need to make peace with things. That looks different for each and every one of us. I don't have all the answers of how I'm going to make sense of what is happening in the world right now but I do know that being cruel to others isn't the answer.
