Here's the switch you have to make when giving feedback: It's not a message to deliver, it's a conversation starter. . I know I get sucked into this trap, and so do most people I work with - thinking we have to craft this perfect bow-on-top feedback message that will be received gracefully and then we can go about our day. . Yeah... that's setting yourself up for a big freaking failure.... . We over think it, make it too 'polished', get freaked out and awkward when the person doesn't receive it with a confetti canon... so let's try something else on for size. . Think of the feedback you're going to give as the START to the conversation. You don't need to get it perfect, you simply have to be open to putting your perception and opinion in between the two of you for a grown up conversation. . It's the start, not the end. . I'm dropping in tomorrow with a three step structure to help you craft that feedback though... because even with this perspective it's still a sweaty palmed hot mess at times. . And as always, if you need more of this, head to https://www.lightupwork.com/freebies or the link in my profile to get your free trainings and tools to help with this... . . . . . . . #lovemyjob #lovemywork #feedbackforthewin #mindsetmatters #careeradvice #careergoals #careeradviceforwomen #yqg #hustlewithease #makeiteasy #feedback #dothework #womenwhowork #momswhowork #motivational #inspiredaction #manifestyourdreams #manifestyourjob #dreamjob #dreamcareer #gottahustle #worktolive #bossbabe #girlbosslife #goaldigger #makeithappen #windsor #changeisgood #impostersyndrome #confidenceatwork See more

I'm guessing no. . I haven't yet come across someone who's genuine reason for not giving feedback is true kindness - myself very much included. . I'll share some ideas this week on how to GIVE feedback in a kind, compassionate and clear way... but let's all agree the reason you're not doing it now is NOT about being kind.... . Kindness always includes honesty. They're a lil' team. . I'd love to hear what your reaction is to this, let me know in the comments! . . . . . . . . . #kindnessmatters #kindovernice #hustlewithheart #confidentwoman #confidentwomen #wecandohardthings #courageovercomfort #businesswomen #ambitiouswoman #ambitiouswomen #mindsetmatters #femaleentrepreneurlife #femaleentrepreneurs #femalefounders #empoweredwomenempowerwomen #careeradviceforwomen #femtrepreneur #mindsetmatters #mindsetiseverything #dothework #careeradvice #9tothrive #goalslayer #feedbacktime #givingfeedbackisanart #howtogivefeedback #timeforfeedback #yqg #yqgbusiness #canadianbusinessowner See more

Anyone else breathing a lil' easier now that Biden & Harris are heading to the White House? . In the spirit of that big boost o' joy, and since I have a bunch of new friends on here, I figured it's a good time to do a fun 'totally irrelevant trivia' post. . Let's see here... ... . 1 I took an Advanced Acting course in University... the moment I realized I didn't fit in was when I had to 'be fire' and I was the only one who looked confused as hell... the module on 'miming' wasn't much better . 2 When I was working at a large multinational organization I may have used the CEO's leg as a guitar during a particularly rowsing Bon Jovi song at a company christmas party... oops . 3 I once took an adult Intro to Ballet class... it was the first (and only) dance class I've ever taken. It was going ok until we had to do leaps... I genuinely felt like a malfunctioning robot... Maybe I'm better with book based classes . 4 About 5 years ago my husband and I vacationed in Formentera, a beautiful island with a load of nudist beaches. I finally got up the courage to get my kit off and go for it one day... it was truly magical swimming naked in the sea... until I swam into a group of jellyfish and got stung all over... seriously?? . 5 Aaaaaand as for what I'm up to here at Light Up Work? I'm on a mission to make the world a better kinder place, one workplace at a time. It's super cheesy but I TRULY believe that work can be the sandbox to learn and practice radical skills like telling the truth with kindness, setting clear boundaries, communicating in a clear and compassionate way, practicing true empathy and being our boldest most boss selves... so you know, just minor goals really hahaha . Stick around if you want the tips, tricks and dig deep thoughts on being your brilliant confident self at work (without turning into an asshole!), along with snippets of life at Chez Critchlow (#ihavecutekids) . Thanks for connecting with me - and I'd love to hear some of your trivia too! . #hustlewithheart #workwithjoy #9tothrive See more

Here's a little secret about getting feedback... you don't actually have to do anything with it. . Seriously. . ALWAYS respect that someone got the courage to tell you something - throw a tonne of grace and gratitude at anyone willing to give you their perspective.... . And then run it through these filters to see if something you can use... . 1 Are they a relevant stakeholder? 2 Do they have skills or knowledge in the topic they're giving you feedback on? 3 Is the feedback given in a way that you can take action on? . If the answer to any of the above is "no"... you simply can't take the feedback at face value. . You have some options. You can: Disregard the feedback completely (with a gracious 'thanks'!) Tease out some useful action you can take based on the feedback Get curious about the feedback, ask questions and find out more . More on getting BETTER more useful feedback tomorrow... . Enjoying the feedback series this week? I'm barely touching the edges of alllll the stuff on feedback - I'm thinking about doing a free 'lunch and learn' session next week to give way more on this... would you want a spot? . Let me know - if there's enough interest I'll make sure to get a session scheduled in! . . . . . . . . #confidentwoman #confidentwomen #businesswoman #businessstrategist #businesswomen #creativeentrepreneur #creativeentrepreneurs #ambitiouswoman #ambitiouswomen #entrepreneurwoman #femaleentrepreneurlife #femaleentrepreneurs #femalefounders #empoweredwomenempowerwomen #careeradviceforwomen #femtrepreneur #mindsetmatters #mindsetiseverything #dothework #careeradvice #9tothrive #goaldigger #goalslayer #feedbacktime #givingfeedbackisanart #howtogivefeedback #timeforfeedback #yqg #yqgbusiness #canadianbusinessowner See more

Every issue I've had to deal with in my career had crappy or non-existent feedback as a player. . Seriously think about a situation at work that was a struggle or challening or just freaking annoying and I'm willing to bet that feedback is in the mix. . Feedback that was completely avoided is usually the culprit.... Or sometimes it wasn't clear or detailed enough to do anything about. Or the feedback was great but NOT received well (hellooooo defensiveness) Or it was thrown out in an attack in front of people... not helpful . Seriously the list goes on but the bottom line? . We HAVE to get better at this. Giving, receiving and incorporating feedback is non-negotiable for our career goals... and for making our workplaces less shitty. . I'm going to dig into this over the week - ANY questions or struggles you have send them my way and I'll be sure to give you something to help! . . . . . . #confidentwoman #confidentwomen #businessgirl #businessstrategist #businesswomen #creativeentrepreneur #creativeentrepreneurs #ambitiouswoman #ambitiouswomen #entrepreneurwoman #femaleentrepreneurlife #femaleentrepreneurs #femalefounders #fempire #careeradviceforwomen #femtrepreneur #girlbossesunite #girlbosshustle #girlbossparty #girlbosstribe #careeradvice #girlsinbusiness #goaldigger #goalslayer #feedbacktime #givingfeedbackisanart #howtogivefeedback #timeforfeedback #yqg #yqgbusiness See more
