It took us a year before we could talk about our mother. Another before we could do it without crying. A third before we could approach the subject of a tombstone. Then the fourth before we settled on a design and waited for it to be made. I say settled, with much intention, because nothing ever felt quite right. We wracked our brains, knowing there was a character limit and not knowing how we’d fit her character within it. There is an uncanny, unsettling, indescribable feeling attached to standing at your grave only to now finally understand what it means to be set in stone. Memorial florals have always been some of my favourites to do, I’ve just never wanted to do them for you.
